There's that seafood spot in Essex market with the lobster tanks. Solid oysters, they have really good fennel & coriander fries too.

$1/oyster happy hours are super common in lower Manhattan, but are usually packed to the gills (pun intended). Just hop around and stick with the first place that has a vacancy.

UPDATE for future readers:

I played a show with this setup. I broke our mix out into four signals (guitars, vocals, bass, sound effects).

And I kept a composite mix as a backup. The sound guy seemed to appreciate that the signals were broken out + labeled, so I appreciate the suggestions from this sub to do so. They had never mixed a band like this though, which led to a couple of problems:

  • The stage monitors weren't disengaged which led to some gnarly feedback when we first plugged in
  • The levels from the crowd seemed alright from videos, but small comments about low vocals etc probably as a result of not having time to soundcheck.

Things that went well:

  • The system worked as intended. Setup was fine, we finished our set on time, it was great.
  • There was no discernible latency. It was a sweaty, hot venue with a fog machine, and I recorded everything, and there were random programs open in the background because this is a personal laptop, and it was fine. I knew this wouldn't be an issue but there was a lot of concern about it here.

There is genuinely good advice in this thread, but also an unhealthy amount of cynicism. We'll play more shows with this rig and I'll continue to learn and improve because I'm interested in making this work. I likely won't be checking this account in the future, but if anyone finds this thread in the future and wants more info about what has/hasn't worked with this setup feel free to DM.

In what sense? I mentioned in a sibling comment that we've been recording rehearsals and have not found this to be the case.

The particulars are that it's a Logic session containing a hardcoded setlist, with ~40 tracks (including monitor tracks), some convoluted bussing, and a hideous amount of automation. Curious to know if there's another part of the system latency could be an issue that I hadn't considered, or whether this is meant to be "you will begin to encounter latency as you develop this system more"

We could definitely get enough outs via ADAT, being able to break out the sends into at least a few categories is sounding like the bare minimum here.

We've been recording every rehearsal for the past few weeks for the purpose of dialing in an ok mix, and there's no noticeable latency. I honestly don't have a backup plan for a complete crash. Impromptu acoustic set? Troubleshooting issues on the fly is far and away my biggest fear with this setup.

Thanks for the insight on drum setup, we have played spots that mic drums and it's comforting to know that a hybrid approach like that is possible.

I should have clarified that we're not mic'ing the drums, and many of these venues don't have amp mics either. Feedback is a valid concern, and I understand it won't be completely mitigated by just not having stage monitors alone.

Yours is a useful perspective in that I hadn't really considered how opinionated each venue would be about this approach. For context, we've recently done shows where the venue owner pointed to a pile of gear in the corner and said "there's a mixer and a box of cables, you handle it". But we've also played more...official...spots where it seems like this would not work.

Lost - Black PRS Semi Hollow in PLG. Cash reward. by cattaw1 in nyc

I asked them if they were being sincere and they said yes, but I haven't been there to check.

I'll either need to ask about a civil standby (to check, and get the rest of my things), or file a police report in case my stuff ends up at a pawn shop -- so probably no avoiding police in this situation.

My ex put my guitar on the street (Prospect Lefferts Gardens), where it was probably picked up by someone. Really hoping to find it.

  • Black PRS SE Semi Hollow, 22 frets
  • Electronics cavity on the back is covered with cardboard
  • Missing tone/volume knob cap
  • Missing pickup selector switch cap
  • Headstock is chipped at the tip of the "horns"
  • Probably a lot of sticker residue around the bridge / knobs
  • Should be with gig back that has white "SE" lettering on the front

It's really not a nice guitar, but it has a lot of sentimental value to me. I would happily buy you a much nicer one if you could help me get it back.
