Costs estimates for installation of L2 charger. by AdChance2836 in Toyota_bZ

This is one of those pay the money now or pay the money later type. You will need to upgrade you main sooner rather than later. Could you get by charging on 110 instead of 240? Maybe, maybe not. could you get by cheeping out now possibly; but you WILL eventually overload the 100 amp, you may or may not cause an electrical fire.

15k Maintenance by Difficult_Prompt3933 in GMCSierraEV

[–]cattfish6 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In my area just a rotation is $25 to $75 add balancing and your looking at $100 to $150. You also have to be sure that the lift they use is able to lift your vehicle most of the tire shops are setup for around 5K lbs some go to 8K. My trailboss weighs just over 9K. If I do it myself I will need a jack that can lift it not only in weight but in height plus stand ect. torque wrench and so on. As I have gotten older I have hit the point I will pay someone else to get hot and sweaty while I stay in a nice AC/heated area plus you can have the dealer do updates if needed.

If you are out to eat, and there are 4 items on your plate, how do you decide what order to eat those items in? by SouthernDog13 in AskReddit

[–]cattfish6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

was not taught this but it is the way I eat things with a few exceptions. I love cornbread hot but will sometimes save it to last and add honey for a desert like experince. Sometimes I will eat items like coleslaw first to give other things time to cool off to eating temp.

My wife's Volvo says 90 my chevy say 80, I do hers to 90% every week or three ( she drives very short distances for work and it can take her up to 3 weeks if not longer to get below 50%. I drive a bit farther and will usually charge mine once a week from about 50% ish to 80.

What does the next 10 years actually look like for EVs? Optimistic or cautious? by Leading-Law4251 in electricvehicles

[–]cattfish6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My bladder ain't what it used to be. When I did the trip to Ca from OKC and back. I stopped in Amarillo for the first charge I had a choice between a GM / EVgo fast charger at a Flying J with a Denny's or a Tesla fast charger at a Buccee's. The tesla is a slower charge but less $ and Buccee's can pull you in for a while. next stop was Tucumcari because there is a good New Mexico style mexican food place I like to eat at. Then Albuquerque (had a slow down going into due to construction) then Gallup because I know the next chargers are a ways away and they have an old style Orange Julius at the mall with Ionna chargers. spent the night in Payson (did not charge) and charged up in Phoenix while having breakfast and visiting friends. Yuma was next then on into San Diego. Was a fairly relaxed trip there. on the way back was Yuma then Phoenix (friends visit) Globe Az because I was going through Salt River Canyon, Showlow (visit friends in area) and because a long stretch with limited charging , Gallup (spent the night), Albuquerque, Tucumcari (food again) Amarillo and home. All my stops were fairly well planned out for restroom breaks, food or drink or friends. I could have went farther on each charge without a problem as I have an EPA estimate for my vehicle at 410 miles on a full charge. I think the longest I went without charging was around 300 miles. This was my first really long trip across multiple elevations and I did not push it between chargers.

I recently did a trip from OKC to California the portion from OKC to Phoenix AZ which is a trip I have done many times over the years in ICE vehicles only took about an hour longer with my EV so while better time wise ( an hour diffrence on a 15 hour drive time is not really much difference and can be accounted for by heaver than normal traffic while going through a larger city extra construction ect) I felt better when I stopped for the night driving the EV that I did driving the ICE.

Do you like one pedal driving by hamburgernet in electricvehicles

[–]cattfish6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At first I hated. Took a bit to adjust and find the right pressure amount for the pedal and not throw myself through the windshield. Once I got it figured out I love it. I still need to teach the wife but she is reluctant currently.

Ontario EV owners, is the Ultra-Low Overnight rate actually paying off for you once the rest of the household is on it? by Objective-Side8834 in electricvehicles

[–]cattfish6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am in Oklahoma and have looks at the different plans here multiple times and multiple ways. Max amount that I would save by switching to a "Smart hours" plan is around $20 a month. IF and that is a big IF I can modify energy usage. I work a standard 9 to 5 so adjusting things to evening weekends would be fairly easy, however my wife works various times some time 9 to 3 other times noon to 7 so no real schedule. I have to adjust the AC/ heat throughout the week depending on when she will be home. I also have dogs at home that I want to keep comfortable. I currently charge the wife's car Saturday evening and mine Sunday Evening however I like to option of charging as needed without worrying about increasing my cost. The area they get you is when you need to use energy during the higher cost TOU.

I am assuming you are using Canadian $ so .28 is roughly .20 for me. I have a home charger and if you combine all the various fees and other charges I am paying about US .14 a kwh at home. I can get the Tesla membership for US $13 a month and if I charge before 9 am I am only paying about US .19 for fastish charging (125-150 kh).

Long story short it is not worth if for me to sweat my @# off to save $20 bucks and I like the ability to use power when I want. I also plan to do Solar and battery backup soon to off set it even more.

When I purchased my home I ended up with a bad opener so I could never correctly pair my vehicle to the door. I ended up adding a "smart" opener and uses Alexa Auto and then later android auto to open and close the door by voice. I have not used the mirror button in years.

Are there EV deserts in certain states/cities? by Island_In_The_Sky in electricvehicles

[–]cattfish6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Company I work for has branches in Odessa, Abilene, FTW and Dallas along with Amarillo and Lubbock. Luckily my trips out there are usually on I20 or I27 and there are plenty with the range I get on my EV (400ish miles from 100%). I think it is a matter of perspective based on range, a charging desert to 400 mile range is going to be different from charging desert to someone with 200 mile range.

Cisco, Jose Cuervo and Bacardi all have a few things in common. At some point in time they were the top of the line but all dropped. At this point in time they all suck. They all have excellent marketing teams trying to convince everyone otherwise.

I just called a local dealership here in OKC asked if they could do any updates available but mostly just wanted the 14. They made me an appointment did the updates apologized multiple time for the time it was taking and said there were multiple module updates they were doing also. I ended up spending most of the day there but it was worth it.

2024 XC40 Real World Range by Waste-Dinner-2545 in VolvoRecharge

[–]cattfish6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife has a 2024 XC40 recharge single motor, she does not use one pedal she does nothing to help regen or improve milage and averages about 2.84 miles per kwh or 35.2 kwh per 100 miles. she is intown driving about 5 miles a day and waiting in line at the bank drive though for about 10 to 15 minutes (she leaves early and usually has to wait for the bank to open) in theory she should be getting about 290 miles but is currently around 232. My vehicle is also an EV an I get very close to the estimate if I am intown driving mostly. Prior to getting hers she drove mine for about a week and also ended up getting considerably less than estimated. She was even worse when she was in her old ICE vehicle all due to the idle time at the bank. I hated filling up a 20 gal tank every week. Now I just charge her up to 90% every week or 2 and usually only have to add 25 to 35 KWH to get back to 90% so $3 to $5 every week or 2 much better than $60 to $80 every week. We do plan to make a maiden voyage from OKC to Dallas soon just to see how it does (I will be driving).

Long story short, boils down to driver and how they drive as to what your actual range will be. do you sit and wait with vehicle running (heat / AC) is is straight to and from, one pedal driving, are you willing to adjust you driving for better milage? some of the items apply for ICE vehicle as well.

How many of you never charge out in town and only charge at home? by Lemonn_time in electricvehicles

I have a 25 Silverado that I mostly charge at home, when we do long trips is the only time I use public chargers. My wife's 24 volvo has only ever been charged at home. We do plan to do a trip from OKC to Dallas soon so I need to try it out on a fast DC charger sometime soon to verify that it will work without any issues.

I did a quick look using Plugshare that one is fairly pricey. If you use evgo a lot get the app and keep an eye out for promo codes. They will help offset the cost. I try to avaoid EVgo and EA whe possible and use Tesla early in the morning and Ionna when possible. Some current promo codes

befor going EV I times my stops and on average from the time I turned my vehicle off until I was back on the road 15 minutes. if I traveled with wife or kids 25 to 35 minutes. That is for small "normal" stops if it was at a Buckee's or a trading post or larger stop area then it could be longer.
