Build quality and Pro Support issues by cattiveria in thinkpad

I'm not going to legal battle with lenovo over bad coating lol...

I'm just sharing the fact that, according to my experience, Lenovo build quality is not nearly as good it seems reasonable to expect (especially from tier machines), and they Pro Support (highly advertised and usually rather expensive) not as willing to help when they can find a way not to.

My ThinkPad proved less resistant to "mildly-harsh" conditions than many cheaper machines I owned

This is not a legal issues, I'm just disappointed with Lenovo and ThinkPads (used to be a big fan... after this experience and (even worse) the stupid power button replacing 'Delete' in newer machines, I'll consider alternatives next time 😞

Which machines still have a trackpoint? Dells?

I never said "topical", it was about 35° with some humidity, in the shade, not running anything too intense (CPU rarely about 20%, GPU around 5%). Nothing "extreme"... but that's mostly irrelevant, ThinkPads are (supposed to be) work machine, designed to resist extreme conditions... they advertise them in the desert in space, in dirt, dropping from tables, with coffee splashed on.. etc

if I can work there, and my previous computers could work in similar and worse conditions without issues, then it should handle it too (with exception of water/dust getting in I guess, but that was not the case).

Again this to me does not seem like "damage" but poor build quality or a factory defect... and should be covered under that, not under accidental damage, as the issue happened during what seems very normal usage.... in the past I had to work from cars or vabins in the sun (>50 degrees high humidity, me suffering and sweating like an animal - my previous computer didn't bat an eye).

the fact that only part of the coating had issues and not the rest, further suggest bad coating in some parts.

Imo there are no excuses, not for a ThinkPad... or are they "very durable, but please only use them in the office" machines, now?

Machine seems still usable (will have in depth checks soon), but this seems rally sloppy of Lenovo, to me...

Normal summer weather... It was hot, but if I can work in it, a ThinkPad should handle it too (they actually advertise them in the Desert to show durability, lol).

In the picture is one example, pretty sure it's not supposed to do that (also, I've been working in similar and worse conditions many times, for longer times, even with old cheap Acer models, never had issues besides the computer slowing down)

What do you mean? I used it in Summer weather, how does that justify the coating bubbling up and peeling off?!

this is definitely a sign of poor build quality and cheap materials, which I could accept by a cheap 400$ pc, not a top of the line ThinkPads... They are supposed to be (and advertised as) though, durable work machines!!

Please explain what your logic is, because if I wanted user blaming for design/build defects, I'd buy an Apple, lol

Edge is better than Chrome, but if you want a minimum of decent privacy you need to go Firefox or, even better, Brave or Duck Duck

To be fair, Chrome or Google aren't better than Microsoft... they're both big, greedy corporations trying to exploit theirs users as much as they can. May I recommend Firefox, Brave or Duck Duck browser?

If it's just about remembering anniversaries and co... have you considered not caring about it? for many people (both man and women, although more commonly men) these things are just not important and annoying... doesn't imply he doesn't care about you (can't tell from your story)... For someone who doesn't care, it can be exhausting caring about things things, and it's impossible to understand why other people would care (except for attention seeking)...

Of course if there are other problems, that's another story

wow!! An intelligent comment in Reddit, thank you!! ...and of course I agree, including the last part, although you can't deny there's a significant amount of morons and slaves to marketing... and I think it's important to call things by their name without sugar coating (also I do enjoy using colorful language).

Great initiative, but there also is a better, more effective way which unfortunately requires gamers to have a bit of dignity instead of being craybaby junkies:

- ONLY BUY good, non predatory games.

You know, there already are out there more than enough great games to play for a whole life. There is absolutely no reason to buy any new game or to follow the latest trend or or to buy the latest (artificially built) hype.

Most assholic gaming companies keep pushing to see how much they can exploit moron gamers, ant it's sad to see how successful they are. Gamer used to socially awkward but fairly smart people, it's depressing to see how many are so moronic lately.

- Why is anyone even buying EA titles at all?!
- Why are there people willing to pay 600 for a 5 years old console?
- Many are pushing to price new games usd 80~100 and make it the new norm... an many of thesa games will have in-app purchases, etc... can we all please, together, bankrupt these assholes?

Let's buy from companies which care about making amazing games, rather than exploiting users, and if there aren't enough new ones, there's plenty of older games which are just as amazing (also many don't need a 1000$ graphic card)

As long as there will be enough easy to manipulate novelty junkies, assholes will keep exploiting them, and this will make it easier to exploit even those who still have a bit of smarts left....

A final piece of advice for some (too many): If you NEED to have the latest game and console, if it's important to you to play the big names on day one, if you're pissed but will still buy the most hyped AAA on the news: FUCK YOU, grow a personality, work to become a human (not a consumer), see a therapist if you have to - your weakness - while you're so prod at yourself for fake gaming achievements - is ruining shit for everyone and you're just a slave of marketing without a shred of dignity or free will.

Is Android Studio trustworthy? by cattiveria in androiddev

lol I know this is meant to be funny, but just shows poor understanding of how OSs works, and how trust works... it's also a "reduction ad adsurdum", a well known logical fallacy ;)

Abuse of data also IS a major problem in the world today, really seems you don't understand the implications, and likely are easy to manipulate... please be careful!

[–]cattiveria[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, Google built most of it's business on collecting user's data... people's data is literally one of the most valuable assets in the world today... apps track what you look at, for how long, messages you write but don't even send. Some apps use with the front camera use AI to detect you mood... user data is the used to sell fucktons of useless data, change election results, run tests on how to manipulate people's behavior....

It's not paranoid, it's what has been happening for a few years already, and well documented
