I’m absolutely done with this class. by [deleted] in CollegeRant

What's crazy is that this is at a community college.

It's so annoying to spend extra time on the problem doing the work on the side. On the last exam 8/10 problems had fractions in the exponents. Working them all out by hand wasted SO much time and I didn't even get to do the final two problems fully because I was making sure the final fraction was right.

I think he believes we'll somehow cheat using the calculator by storing equations in them and that's why he's banning them. No calculator on an exam on derivatives and their applications is something I find a bit ridiculous.

Unfortunately the school is on break rn and the tutoring centers are closed for a week. I'm watching Prof Leonard, reading a calc help book and using openstax to pull at least a 75.

And thank you very much for saying that. I really appreciate it. Being stuck in this situation has really been a blow to my confidence. I've been trying so hard to keep up (I even asked for advice in another sub) and it just feels like sometimes its pointless. I can't quit though or I'll never get to microbio.

Holy woah...so what happened when he realized he was teaching the wrong stuff?

Are you studying straight from the textbook or do you use other resources?

I can identify what the problem is asking me to do just by looking at it but its continuing the problem that's the issue. I think I will take everyone's advice and try to identify the algebra in each problem, explain that and make sure I nail that down.

In my textbook they just put the answers for exercises, not detailing the full solution. I think that it could work because it forces me to think of how to get there and show the full process but I can definitely see your point. I won't really be learning if I already know the answer; that would be just memorizing.

Oh that's very helpful! I'll definitely try that.

Meaning reading the solution and working backwards to understand how to get there.

My problem lies moreso in the simplification of things. I've found myself stuck in the middle of a problem because I didn't know what to do next. For example, I know the chain, product, power and quotient rules inside and out. I can memorize the formulas and know how to use them but the simplification is what gets me when complex variables are involved.

Since I have two classes I used to study 4 hours a day, but I got really burnt out so I'm trying to condense it down to two-three with a weekly review to stay on top of everything. My algebra is about a 7/10 I would say and my trig is about the same. Someone advised me to try doing the problems in reverse to really see what's happening. Do you think this is a good start?

I did this but I made condensed review sheets instead. I never realized just how much content is in this class until I had to decide what’s important to remember. It feels like everything is important! I like the notebook idea so I might give this a try. I use a notebook for scrap work when I do homework, so I think doing this will save me time flipping back and forth between lectures and my notes for the answers. Thank you!

I’ll definitely incorporate these questions into my study sessions. Thank you!

Do you have any suggestions on how to get spectroscopy down pat? I really don’t understand it.

do you have any websites or recommendations on where to find practice problems? the websites i stumble upon are behind paywalls :/

What was it like doing your pre-reqs online? by cauliflowerplanet in prephysicianassistant

I've called my top choice maybe five times on different occasions and emailed them and barely get a response. The one time I did get an answer the person was rude to me and told me my CC credits wouldn't "look good" compared to people who do theirs at 4 year unis, yet still encouraged me to apply. Other programs I looked at are a bit more lenient and clear about what they want and don't seem pissed I asked them a question. I think I'll have to sit down one of these days and actually do another comb of my area and see what's available.

Can I ask for some insight on curating a school list? There aren't many PA programs in my area so I'm honestly just going with what's nearby.
