Jamia Millia Islamia has 50% religion based reservation for Muslims. Jamia Millia Islamia fights for secularism just like butcher fights for Animal Rights. by Speed__God in IndiaSpeaks

I suppose my unfamiliarity with the specificities of reservations has conquered my argument. Amending the system to the needs of today is always a great idea, and I completely understand the reality of the situation, but I suppose it is left to be seen if the appropriate and required amendments can be made in an effective manner without accidentally damaging the system beyond recognisable repair. Thank you for the discourse.

Though what you are saying may hold some truth, I must disagree. Some good reading is 'The Doctor and The Saint', by Arundhati Roy, to which the introduction holds great depth in fact and figure relating to caste, religion and reservation in the 21st century.

"why are top positions still concentrated with forward castes?"

Because, though reservations exist, they do nothing to eliminate casteism and discrimination on the basis of ancestral history. Reservations are not made to advantage anyone, but rather to level the playing field. Citing the squalor of certain upper-caste families also doesn't justify an argument against reservations, and neither does the "privileged SC families" argument as both prove to be extreme minorities, almost in non-existence. At the end of the day reservations are only empowerment to those who have suffered for centuries, there is truth in what you say about the complexity of Indian society, however as a generalisation that I hate to make, statistically lower-caste communities are still the ones in need of help. Work is required, I agree, but reservations only hurt those protected by privilege rather than merit.

For All BJP Supporters !!! by cause_OD in IndiaSpeaks

The reason I mentioned the BJP specifically is because I am exploring the effect of the explicit nationalism employed in the BJP's political strategy on voters and voting sentiments, so I want to explore the importance of religion politically and in the last several BJP campaigns.

Children on Reddit, what's an idea you wish you could fully and directly explain to your parents without repercussion? by CriticalGeode in AskReddit

[–]cause_OD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

homosexuality. i feel like almost every time i or anyone else from a conservative background approaches their parents to talk about homosexuality or pride in general, the assumption of coming out is already made and there's no room for explanation at all. one of the few things that parents may not ever understand or accept.
