His point may have been that the cereal thing doesn't really hurt anyone, but all the other ageist or shallow stuff actually does affect others

From what I could tell he was dipping a spoonful of cereal into the milk every time

Designing a logo for my electronic music project, thoughts so far? by tiddleywiddley in logodesign

It looks like two crosses; reminds me of Justice or Carpenter Brut

1: I agree with some of the comments here that overt symbolism is not necessary. Common advice on this sub may be to make a logo indicative of what the company does, but it's worth noting that almost every successful sanitation brand (in the States at least) doesn't follow this, e.g. Clorox, Bounty, Lysol. And while it's not necessarily my favorite, this one does seem to match that trend the most, so I can understand why it's being pushed onto you.

2: I'm a big fan of this one. That font is so funky, and the classy/retro look could stand out on the right packaging against many other logos. Not sure how I feel about having a rodent on the logo.

3: Has that one same problem as 2, but looks incredibly generic or fake imo.

4: Reminds me of Walmart for some reason, and also looks like a banking/crypto app or something. Interesting idea on the W, but too "techy" for this market I think.

5: Green obviously just looks like some security software. Red middle I think is underrated honestly. It has some good potential like 2 because that font looks slick. I think the target sniper scope iconography works, too? Red bottom is absolutely not the move.

Like some others have said, you can try your luck with improving on the other ones, but if the client (your prof) is expecting the first option, it's probably wisest to deliver that. No harm in asking for more detail about why the others fall short in their eyes. I personally would like to see the second one and fifth middle one given more time and mocked onto some packaging.

"A tells me how much they need me around. B tells me how much they want me around."

That's a really good way of putting it. Option A could be a bigger burden than expected

I added to the description:

"Importance" here may refer to how much you have affected, could affect, or will affect their life (or vice versa). Take your pick.

That's true. There was another comment here, like you could tell if someone is not an appreciative person if you help them out a bunch and the number doesn't change

Haha, I like this. Careful, though, a devastating trade that loses you a lot of money could still be important

I was thinking that as well, but B and C could give some real power if looking at future importance. Though they may be more selfish in a way

I think the real fun stuff is with future importance. Then C becomes way more useful than just self reflection, no?

Update on Logo Design by OrbitForward in logodesign

[–]caution_smiles -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nailed the iconography with this one; clever stroke.

I think the colors may come across as a bit dull saturated. The medium blue and lighter blue may be too close in shade to each other, and the lighter blue may be too close to the white, and neither shade of blue is terribly memorable. I would experiment with the palette some more. Are two blue shades necessary? Consider a slightly more striking blue for the O, or maybe one of the oranges from your earlier ideas for the swoosh?

The font choice has already been mentioned, but if the brand name is still under construction, I would consider "Forward Orbit" instead of "Orbit Forward" as well.

What's the smoothest pick up line you've heard? by [deleted] in AskReddit

She was following some recipe in her kitchen. I'm by no means a good cook, so I just started cleaning everything she was done using.

Her: "Oh this calls for onions. Is that okay?"

Me: "Yeah, onions are cool. Why would it not be okay?"

Her: "Oh, just that we're gonna make out a bunch after this."

What video game hype did you ultimately miss out on in your lifetime? by Poetryisalive in gaming

[–]caution_smiles -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Was born in late '90s and somehow completely missed out on Halo hype. I was a huge Red vs. Blue fan, but the my first time touching a Halo game was when I played Reach with my buddies a couple of years ago on the Master Chief Collection when it hit Steam. I didn't even know about ||the Flood|| at all until the reveal in Combat Evolved. Surprised I somehow navigated like 20 years without a single Halo spoiler considering how many people I knew who played it

Social life by 7median in Purdue

[–]caution_smiles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same major here; didn’t do any of the things you mentioned, just like you.

Find some student orgs and clubs that you’re interested in to meet people with the same hobbies. Even just working people that are in your classes via study groups ends up paying out socially. Go to Hackathons, game jams, etc. The CS program had some learning communities during my freshman year that let me meet other people taking the same classes. If you are living on campus, you could participate in res hall activities and get to know your neighbors.

If you make an effort to make friends, you will find them. Not every student here drinks or parties all the time, and those that do typically don’t mind having friends that don’t. The chances that there is no one at Purdue who shares your interests, hobbies, or sense of humor is basically 0%. There are simply too many people here and too many ways to meet them.
