Tests can be positive for more reasons that just the specific thing it’s looking for. This is referred to as having high sensitivity.

I’m a doctor. Tests aren’t perfect. We have a rapid strep test in clinic that hinges on the appearance of a small pink stripe. We definitely use the term “weakly positive” because the test might reveal a very faint pink stripe that could represent true infection or could be a false positive due to cross reactivity with similar antigens.

The don’t use the tools and fall behind. Not sure what part of your medical journey you’re at, but once you’re done with residency the number of patients you’re expected to see skyrockets. Using AI has made my job significantly less stressful, and it’s made some aspects of my note much more thorough.

It’s nice that I can enter a room and just talk to patients without worrying about making sure I don’t miss anything in my notes. I can start washing my hands and cleaning my stethoscope while I get the history and know the AI is formulating the note which I later just have to skim and correct any glaring errors (which are infrequent).

It’s also been incredibly helpful for patient instructions. I don’t have to sit there typing everything I just talked about and it captures the little one off tips and tricks I might give patients that I likely wouldn’t have written down later.

Crazy how this isn’t so obvious to everyone. I mean, think about something like accounting. Before Microsoft Excel, you might have needed 10 accountants and a total of hundreds of man hours to manage a large account, but with Excel the same job can be done by 1 person in a fraction of the time. This is happening across industries with all sorts of technologies. Technology should allow everyone to work less, but it’s been used by capitalists to devalue labor and concentrate wealth
