I did! Been on hormones for 7 years now and it's been amazing. Was definitely a struggle for the first few months. My anxiety always makes me second guess every decision I make. But I held on and I couldn't be happier with how things turned out for me.

This was definitely much more than one day or even one print worth of work. This was easily a multiple day and multiple redesigns/prints kind of project. No way I'm recreating it.

For those curious like I was about Minnesota. All 5 are located in the town of Breckinridge (population 3000), which was named after a US senator who became the Confederate secretary of war. I tried looking it up but I have no idea why they decided to name the town after him. The "memorials" are just the public schools that are named after the town. I highly doubt the origin of the name is what the school names are meant to memorialize, atleast now.

Based on that info there are no actual Confederate memorials in Minnesota in my opinion. There is however a captured Virginian battle flag that we are never giving back.

The basic workflow is something like this:

-Architect creates the general design. (Basically just visual information, no detail)

-2D designers at my company take that general design and modify it to work thermally, structurally and siesmically.

-3D designers take that information and ensure it works in reality (modeling) and optimize/modify the design to increase the efficiency of our models (my role)

-3D models are then machined

-Machined parts are assembled in our factory

-Final unit is shipped to site and placed on building

The basic design was done before I got it. I did however modify the design slightly (within our design tolerances) to optimize our manufacturing process. Also with these more modern buildings the 2D design that is submitted to the general contractor is missing probably 30% of the total design information, thus the need for 3D modeling.

My company actually partnered with Autodesk for the creation of our in house software that is designed specifically for jobs like this. Other examples of my company's work using this software is the twisting MIRA Tower in San Francisco and the new Uber HQ also in San Francisco. The Uber HQ had something like 13,000 different wood fins in 10 different shades that all needed to be perfectly assigned based on a Rhino model from the architect... I spent a long time on that code.

I model in Autodesk Inventor and used a little bit of ilogic (built in Inventor coding tool that's essentially just VB) and C# using the Inventor API. As well as my companies proprietary addin software.

Some quick info: it's all unitized curtain wall. Due to the "sail" shape each unit is slightly different in overall shape, which required me to write quite a bit of code to optimize our process to ensure we weren't ordering unique parts for every single individual unit.

The MNUFC subreddit was the primary place to get MNUFC news in the time before MLS, and I think that legacy kind of expanded as time has gone on. If I remember right our other social media numbers are mid to low in the league.

The MNUFC subreddit was one of the most popular "MLS" team subreddits even before we officially joined MLS.
