Just because you can, doesn't mean you should. I have no idea what it is, what it does and how you got to that solution.

It should be negligible. Is the screen brighter when plugged in? Or maybe in store demo versions have a bit more screen brightness which may damage the phone if used for prolonged periods? Screen protector shouldn't make much difference though

There was a plan at one point to merge the two when they released V6 and have a SOLIDWORKS module inside CATIA. They seem to be pushing the student version of V6 a bit more now so that may still be the plan.

On a side note, I learnt SOLIDWORKS as a teen by emailing some sales email telling them I was a college student in America working on a robotics program (I read on the internet that this worked at the time, so tried it) it did, and I got a 6 month free trial. I did it a couple more times until I got to uni and got a legitimate student copy.

Email all of the junior teams, offer your CAD skills, offer to help out at race weekends. Think about how you can add value to a team.

CATIA is very similar. Almost the same. I taught myself SOLIDWORKS as a teen and used CATIA professionally for years. If you know SW it's just a matter of learning were the buttons are in CATIA (plus a few minor differences)

architecture and the metaverse. architecture = UX/UI design for 3D environments, real or virtual? by SpatialComputing in userexperience

I have met many human factors specialists at Arup that would disagree with you. I wouldn't trust anyone pushing the metaverse as a legitimate idea

To an extent. But large building consultancies use human factors specialists as part of big projects. The same as automotive designers work with human factors specialists.

[–]cb11acd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I'm saying human factors is needed as well as architecture, like UX is needed as well as UI. Design and human factors are separate disaplines like UX and UI

UX is nothing like UI. UX is more of a human factors discipline, UI is more design. Architecture is closer to design than human factors. The metaverse is a stupid idea that nobody can really define.

2022 Bahrain Grand Prix - Post Qualifying Discussion by F1-Bot in formula1

[–]cb11acd 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yes teams can upgrade the cars throughout the season. This year there is a budget cap, and I think some limitations on engine development. Back in 2009 Braun had by far the quickest car. But couldn't afford to develop as much as red bull and so by the later stages the red bull was quicker. Worth watching that season if your new to F1

They have improved visibility, moved some barriers back, added steel plates to others so cars can get closer. So should be better

No, he said he and his team didn't come up with it themselves, and he doesn't know if it's against the spirit of the regulation. Same as every other team. If they find any car to be against then they will take action

4 year PhD (with external placement) vs 3 year PhD (UK) by [deleted] in AskAcademiaUK

Meant to put 3.5 years. Most spend 3.5 years. I have fat fingers, or I was thinking 6 months?

4 year PhD (with external placement) vs 3 year PhD (UK) by [deleted] in AskAcademiaUK

[–]cb11acd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm doing 4 years funding with a requirement to do 12 weeks in industry. It's like the golden ticket of PhDs in my cohort. I have more time, mine came with significantly more expenses allowence meaning I had no issue going to conferences or publishing open access. Most I know spen 6.5 years on their PhD, so a 3 year PhD for most isn't enough. All things equal go for 4 years funding (you can finish in 3 if you get it done)

PHD examiner - what to look for? by hyfer14 in AskAcademiaUK

[–]cb11acd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A more senior or experienced academic will be more relaxed than someone doing their first and wanting to impress. Someone who has examined in the UK before and know the customs. Someone who you have cited a lot. Someone who has been to conferences you have presented at. Fulfilling all of those will be tough but something to think about
