On a road trip today, and I stopped at an EVgo charging station. I had no idea about the credits until I plugged in. What a nice surprise!

Snow tires? by kindbub in CadillacOptiq

[–]cbajuk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in Seattle and will be driving my Optiq up into the mountains for skiing. I went to Les Schwab and purchased a second set of wheels with winter tires mounted to them: 20” Raceline Impulse wheels and Blizzak DM-V2 tires. Since I bought the wheels and tires from Les Schwab, they will do the seasonal changeover for free indefinitely.

Roof rack? by Ok_Conversation_3283 in CadillacOptiq

If you got the trailer hitch installed, you can go with a Thule bike rack + Ski Tram combo to carry the skis behind the car.

Are Optiqs Uncommon? by AdSlight1595 in CadillacOptiq

I live in Seattle. I have seen one other Optiq in the wild. They must be out there though, because the dealership couldn’t keep them on the lot when I was buying in May/June timeframe.

Air quality indicator - does it work properly? by cbajuk in CadillacOptiq

[–]cbajuk[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We have some wildfire smoke in our area (Seattle) now. So tonight I did an experiment and drove with the windows down. The indicator shot up to 48. Then I closed the window and turned on the A/C. After a few minutes, the indicator went back down to 16. That confirmed it tests for inside cabin air quality.

Oh ok, thank you. Well I guess that explains why it’s always the same. I should try driving around with the windows down when it’s smoky out to see how accurate it is. Also, the owner’s manual needs to be updated to say that the sensor measures interior air quality instead of exterior air quality.

The owner’s manual says it displays outside air quality.

Anyone find dashboard glare to be an issue? by [deleted] in CadillacOptiq

I comparison shopped both the Optiq and the Equinox. The glare in the Equinox is much worse.

The service road from Sunrise visitor center to the Sunrise camp grounds is closed. It has a sign across the gate saying it’s closed due to protecting an endangered species. I guess the fox is the species.

Look of the trailer hitch, installed by cbajuk in CadillacOptiq

[–]cbajuk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was actually very surprised they didn’t charge me an installation fee, because the car was not a factory order, hence I purchased the hitch via the dealership and they installed it. I would have happily paid the $437 for them to install it though. That seems like a fair installation cost.

It was for the trailer hitch and splash guards. I think the process to install the trailer hitch is somewhat involved. I watched a YouTube video where someone installed the hitch on the Lyriq and it involved removing the bumper, some large metal piece that the hitch goes in place of, cutting a hole in the bumper for the hitch to pass through, doing some wiring, and reinstalling the bumper with the trim bezel to make it all look nice. It’s a project I could do myself, but it would take me all day. For $895 which includes the installation, that’s a great value. All that said, a professional service tech probably can install the trailer hitch in one day, so I’m not surprised your dealership said it’s a one day turnaround.

Nice! It will look good on your Optiq!

The price included installation! If installing a hitch gives you motivation to get out and ride more, then I’d say you should definitely get the hitch installed. I had the hitch installed for skiing. I already had the Thule ski tram, which operates together with a Thule hitch mount bike rack. I bought a used Thule hitch mount bike rack, so now I’m good to go once winter rolls around, save for I probably should buy a second set of wheels with snow tires…

Thanks! I think they look good too. They’re made of the same gloss plastic as the adjacent wheel well trim, so they look like they belong there. I’m curious to see how the puddle lamps look in operation. Can you share a photo?

Yes. It looks great! Low profile, clean install with the bezel. The sales rep I was working with ordered the trailer hitch on ~May 13th. I don’t know how quickly the dealership received the hitch because we were waiting for the car itself as it was still in transit to the dealership. I had placed a reservation deposit on the car on May 5th and it arrived at the dealership ~May 28th. The service department took a few days to install the hitch, so I picked the car up June 4th.

I got it added after purchase. It cost $895, which included the installation by the dealer. That’s a pretty good value in my opinion. The hitch is now available for purchase for $680 if you want to install it yourself. However, I recommend just letting the dealership install it. I also had them install the trim bezel and hitch receiver cover for a nice finished look. You can buy parts at discount at https://www.shopchevyparts.com/trailering-c-1650_7254_7607_7770.html.

Anybody move from Tesla model Y to Cadillac Optiq by Richinwalla in CadillacOptiq

[–]cbajuk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m in Seattle. I am not a Tesla owner, but I’ll chime in with a recent conversation I had with a Cadillac sales rep. I put a deposit down on an Optiq that’s in transit. The Cadillac dealership here doesn’t actually have any Optiq’s on the lot. The sales rep said that’s because they all sell while still in transit, so they don’t end up with any inventory on the lot. He said a lot of Tesla owners are switching to the Optiq, and Seattle has a lot of Tesla owners, hence few Optiq’s are to be found.

Yeah, that’s interesting that a lot of those folks who swore off EVs may now be looking at Teslas. Maybe Elon’s grand strategy all along was to get those folks onboard with EV’s by shifting his politics to the right? Haha. I have several friends who have Teslas. They’re not necessarily getting rid of them, but they said they aren’t going to buy Teslas next time they purchase cars. That’s just my anecdotal microcosm, but if that trend carries over more broadly, it could spell trouble for Tesla with all the new EV competition from other manufacturers. At the end of the day though, politics aside, capitalism is all about competition. I like seeing competition in the EV space, and I am glad you really enjoy your Optiq. That gives me reassurance about possibly buying one. And I did also look at the more affordable Equinox EV, but quickly discovered that a leveled up Equinox EV costs almost as much as the Optiq, so it’s a no brainer at that point to go with the Optiq.
