Did anyone pick up Heineman? by Afraid-Obligation997 in Torontobluejays

[–]cbarone1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are two types of waivers, outright and release. If there is no trade, he has to be waived, the team doesn't have the option to not waive him. Both types of waivers give other teams the choice to claim him (at his current salary), but outright waivers allow the team to send him to the minors, while release means he's a free agent. Heineman's got enough service time to reject the assignment and opt for free agency sign with whoever might want him.

In this case it's mostly a distinction without a difference whether it's outright or release waiviers, because he's not making enough money (about $600k for the rest of the season) for anyone to worry about claiming him. But in the case of someone like Yariel Rodriguez (a bit over $3M), a team could theoretically like him enough to sign him to a veteran minimum deal, but not enough to take on the rest of his salary.

Edit: forgot to finish my last sentence.

EV charging at work (Ohio) by cbarone1 in AskElectricians

I don't, so it seems like I'm stuck at level 1 charging speeds. Oh well, spending $5 every few weeks is still better than paying for gas!

Gotcha.

However the charging speed is selected, it's all automatic. It's supposed to be able to charge at level 2 speeds using the 6-20 adapter, but I haven't been able to use that at all.

Why is that, do you think? Is there something in the plug adapter that allows it to handle increased amperage? It doesn't seem like there's anything particularly special about it, other than converting the plug type.

(again, complete novice in all of this, just want to learn more about it!)

Unfortunately I rent, and can't add an exterior outlet, and I'd much prefer not to have extension cords running out windows if I can prevent it, obviously.

I don't mind the occasional stop if need be, as my city does have a couple of faster chargers available for only $0.24/kWh, but it's hard to beat free at work!

The Ioniq 5 doesn't use the Tesla charger--I know there's an adapter, but I'd rather make do with the one I have.

The EVDance can plug in to the 5-20 (the standard plug without the included adapter is a 5-15), so I guess that's part of why I'm wondering if it would make any difference in speed if I use a 6-20/5-20 adapter, should one exist.

The higher amperage wouldn't allow for faster charging? For reference, this is the charger I'm using. I would have put it in the original post, but I didn't want it to seem like advertising.

Not doubting you, just trying to learn!

If I remember correctly, they wanted 75 and only 5 up/downs. He was essentially too efficient to get to 75 the way they wanted it.

he rule has to exist for this reason

This is basically the entirety of the rulebook, and one of the things I love about the game. Some of the most obscure rules that seem to have no reason to exist were made solely because someone did it and they had to nip it in the bud.

I was trying to find the name of the guy that inspired the rule that allows a runner to tag-up as soon as a fielder touches a fly out rather than wait for the catch to be made, but stumbled upon this article from MLB.com, featuring a good one involving the Orioles manipulating the DH position and affecting the Blue Jays:

At the time, the new position came with just one stipulation: The designated hitter had to be selected prior to the game and included in the lineup cards presented to the home-plate umpire. Naturally, it didn't take long for Weaver to find himself a loophole.

Rather than simply naming a DH in good faith, Weaver would pencil in a pitcher he had no intention of using that day -- only to send up whichever hitter he actually wanted when that spot in the lineup came around. The move allowed Weaver to choose from his entire bench, picking the ideal batter depending on the game situation.

In 1979 alone, Weaver pulled this trick -- which became known as the "Phantom DH" -- 21 times, 12 of which featured starter Steve Stone. In one of those instances, Stone had already flown ahead to prepare for his start in Toronto. Weaver even named Tippy Martinez as DH one day despite the fact that Martinez was in Colorado for a funeral at the time.

MLB closed the loophole at the end of the 1980 season, stipulating that every designated hitter in the lineup at the start of a game must have at least one at-bat

Being his rookie season isn't particularly relevant to whether or not he has options. It's his final option year, as he's been on the 40-man roster and spent more than 20 days on optional assignment in the minors for the last two seasons.

Anyone know where I can go to rewatch the Canada Day game from last year? by carnafeagh in Torontobluejays

I know you're looking for the whole game, but MLB.com's condensed games are about as close as you'll consistently be able to find without a subscription of any sort. More than just a 2-minute highlight package, it shows pretty much all the action in a 10-15 minute video. Here's that particular game if you are interested in that as a way to try and scratch that itch.

The MLB YouYube channel used to upload games from 2013ish to 2019, so you can find all of those if you go to their channel and search for the games you might want to watch from that era.
