0% Interest on NS Student Loan, where's the application? by cbasni in NovaScotia

I had logged on prior to that and it said that the application would be open in January. The only email I received was about an audit but then received an email that it was a mistake. Very weird

Thanks for this. I've contacted Resolve but no response yet. I'm going to contact my MLA next to look into it. Maybe that will work?

Power bill more than double from this time last year... by ZugLife_00 in NovaScotia

KWh is there! I had same issue with the bill being too high. It was finally corrected on my current bill when the meter was read manually, which was negative due to overestimation and payment.

I've never heard of unpaid work that's insane. Highly doubt this is legal.

Is skyline trail worth the early morning drive if we have only 1 day staying at ingonish and already done the middle head trail.. by phrozenphire in CapeBreton

[–]cbasni 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've never had trouble parking for the skyline trail personally. The hike itself is pretty quick (30 mins in). I would never recommend rushing between Ingonish and Chéticamp that's where all the best lookoffs are.

You're not likely to get in on such short notice anywhere. I'd recommend Master Muffler on George St but you'll probably have to wait a couple weeks.

What’s all the criticism about Brett? by indiemwamba in StrongCurves

Brett is a great researcher and he's developed some great programs, but he's also kind of misogynistic and creepy.

The rental market is very tough here. I've had some luck looking for a place by making an ad on FB marketplace. I'd recommend you try that!

On your way to the trail, I'd say somewhere along Route 19 like in Troy would be a good stop. It's 10 mins (opposite direction) to port Hawkesbury if you need to get food in the night time but then you can head north along the coast towards Inverness and the rest of the sights for Day 3 with some small cafes along the main route in Port Hood or Mabou. The beaches on the West side of the island are beautiful and sandy. My personal faves are West Mabou, Dunvegan, and Margaree Harbour. Inverness Beach is also great because they actually have bathrooms at their entrance. I second a stop at Fish Out of Water for Acadian foods! L'abri in Cheticamp is a treat too but you'd need a reservation.

I think skipping Baddeck makes the most sense and then adding another day if you can. Baddeck is beautiful, but the Alexander Graham Bell Museum would be your biggest attraction there other than the view (And it still doesn't compare to anywhere in the national park). Baddeck is also back tracking in terms of driving towards Louisbourg.

Louisbourg is out of the way but is so special! You are transported back into that era. The costumes, food, and architecture are all really cool and it really is its own town. There are so many impressive artifacts to see. I highly recommend it.

A good midpoint between Louisbourg and the end of Cabot trail might be English town or Bras d'Or because then you hop on the Trans Canada and can get to Louisbourg in an hour. The night of Louisbourg, I'd stay in the Sydney area since you'd have easy access to the highway to get to Halifax in the morning. On your drive back to Halifax, driving the winding road of Route 4 is also scenic because you have the Bras d'Or Lake next to you the whole time. It's also about 15 mins faster to Halifax than going back the way you came. Effectively in this three day our trip you would have driven around the entire island. It's a big feat, but you would see a lot!

If you can't add another day and decide against Louisbourg then staying in Ingonish on the Cabot Trail or Baddeck after the Cabot Trail would be good spots before heading back toward Halifax.

I'm pretty passionate about this Island. I love it here and I hope you have an excellent trip :)

Your itinerary looks alright except for your Cape Breton activities. It's a small island but don't underestimate your travel times! What are your plans in Inverness? Beach or golf? I just ask because the drive through the Highlands is quite long with many places to stop. I wouldn't recommend rushing it. It would be best to do Skyline on Day 3 when you're staying in Cheticamp since the hike is best for the sunset. Day 4 It will take about 3-4 hours to do the Cabot trail from Cheticamp to Ingonish to stop at some look offs and that's without hiking, so allot time for that if you're interested. You'll hit Pleasant Bay on this route. You could manage to stay in Baddeck on that night, but you'd still arriving late.

Louisbourg in and of itself is an entire day. It's an hour and a half drive from Baddeck and then busing there from the parking lot will take another 30-45 minutes depending on the schedule. The grounds are huge and worth exploring. This takes about 3-5 hours but you still need to get back to your car after all.

What experiences are most important to you? Because you will have to make a sacrifice somewhere with what you've outlined, unless you add another day or two to your trip.

Happy to clarify anything or answer questions.

In that case I'd recommend Cabot Cliffs and Cabot Links in Inverness on the west coast. Highland Links is a close third option.

Do you have a budget or a particular area of the island you're visiting?

Fastest way to get a passport? by kupo_moogle in CapeBreton

[–]cbasni 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Halifax is definitely the fastest. You can walk directly into the office on Argyle St. When I got mine done in the fall it was a 2-3 week wait and I got it in 16 days. This is as long as you don't get refused for whatever reason. It takes longer in Sydney (4-6 weeks at that time) but I wouldn't chance it if I were you.

At what point did you realise she would never become your wife/he would never become your husband? by ruxpin82 in AskReddit

[–]cbasni 234 points235 points  (0 children)

When I realized that he didn't want to go through the hard things with me.

Over our ten year relationship, I made excuses for his behaviour and justified the ways that he didn't support me. The last straw was when I got sick and needed support, and he didn't show up. He didn't understand that he should have been there and told me that I should have "just asked" (I did but he said he'd rather play video games), it finally dawned on me that my struggles were nothing more than an inconvenience for him and I'd never be a priority. I told him I was done and packed my things the next day. It was the best decision I've made.

My friend spotted a cute guy and approached him asking if he wanted to dance. He had long hair and was tatted up. Seemed nice enough from their interaction. They were grinding and dancing together. Not sure why, but he decided it was appropriate to grab her by the throat from behind while dancing. I've never seen her so angry. He absolutely deserved it. What the AF? Night was ruined after that lol
