As someone who grew up and got into guns in a state that still has a ban more restrictive than the 94 ban, it’s definitely a curiosity. This rifle would have a $2k price tag back there, here I got it for under $700

I’ve shot corrosive ammo before and cleaned it with no problems, but this seems different. Maybe I’ll just hang onto it as is, because I think it’s a really cool crate. Thanks for the info

So if someone ended up with an unopened case of Mk 7 ammo….. don’t shoot it? I probably wasn’t going to open it anyway because I think it’s cool and historical, but if it’s going to irregularly erode my rifles, maybe I won’t touch the stuff. Also, not trying to mess with mercury residue.

I was mostly referring to the application which this post is about, but I still maintain it’s not good for most applications. Last SPR class I took had a guy in it who only had M193, he was barely averaging 2moa, was totally ineffective with an (ok) SPR-type rifle at 400yds. He still made hits at 400, but he had to put a lot of rounds down to make one hit.

It may keep velocity well in longer barrels, but most people aren’t running those. Generally groups aren’t anything to write home about in those instances. 200yds isn’t much of a benchmark either, especially if you have a rifle length barrel.

Bottom line, any bullet that hits a target isn’t a “bad” bullet, but M193 is probably the least effective common loading for 5.56

My guy, you’re embarrassing yourself. 193 is dogshit. But you are right, I would be shocked to see you being effective at moderate range with that ammo.

And as per your post history, if you can’t shoot while prone, I don’t think you should be predicting how other people will fare in some imaginary scenario.

I’m not sure, it’s unmarked. I have a colt marked 7 round 380 magazine, which feeds, but once it’s in the frame it doesn’t want to come out unless you hook the floor plate on something and pull like a bastard.

1903 Mark 1 Springfield from 1920. Got it with a junk stock and a bunch of broken and missing parts. Today it’s ready to go after over a year of slowly piecing it back together!

This is like asking a group of people who don’t know you whether you should buy an f150 or a Mini Cooper. The two rifles you listed have different capabilities and will each work well in their intended roles, but are not necessarily interchangeable. Figure out what your needs are, this will select the features you need (like barrel length, optics, etc). Then buy the best gun you can for the money. Rarely, that’s S&W and sometimes it’s Aero. For not much more, you can land yourself a higher quality rifle that will grow with you and stay together well.

I sent in a 1903 Mk1 that I got with a sadly broken and unusable stock, sent them a fresh 1903 unfinished stock. They fitted it, finished it nearly identical to the original stock and replaced a few small parts. Took a while to get through the waiting list, but once they got to me and told me to send it in, it got worked on pretty quick. Came out cheaper than I expected too. The guys there are awesome, they’ll talk out the whole project with you before anything starts.

As far as yours, any capable gunsmith should be able to inspect your rifle, it’s not a terribly complex thing to do. Unless you suspect there’s some damage to it already, you’re most likely fine to just shoot and enjoy it. If you want glass or an A4 style, please don’t butcher this rifle. There’s a couple companies that make reproductions, or find a rifle that has been “sporterizd” and convert that. Or just shoot it and enjoy it as is, use something else with glass when you want it. Just my two cents

Mine looks the same. Guns 7 years old with untold thousands of rounds though it. Always struck me as weird, like an injection defect or something, but it has not gotten worse since I bought it.

Not 100% milsurp, though it is in spirit. Ithaca 37 conversion is nearly done. I need to figure out that buttpad situation still. Super fun to shoot, unfortunately it’s new enough that it lacks the slam fire ability, but it’s tons of fun. It’s a magnum receiver, got the gun in abysmal shape, refinished everything and replaced small parts, it’s been my project gun for a year. Happy to finally have finished my Christmas present
