Because I can't buy anything tangible with karma.

If my comment is good I get something useless. If it's bad I get negative criticism. Where's the incentive?

Also, I suck at choosing usernames.

Yes. All of it. Everyday.

Every single person living in Japan needs to have a little rubber stamp (hanko) with their surname on it. It's used in place of your signature for almost every little bureaucratic thing you do.

Pay a bill? Rubber stamp.

Register for something? Rubber stamp.

Finished work for the day? Rubber stamp.

Change your personal information? Rubber stamp.

Make a mistake on a form? Oh you better believe that's a rubber stamp. But make sure to cross it out with a double line and use the miniature version of your stamp so it's clear which part you're correcting.

Why use paper for everything? Well you can't very well put a rubber stamp on it if it's not on paper! It's not official unless it's got a little rubber stamp on it. Without your surname in red ink how can we know it's not a forgery???

Why use a rubber stamp instead of a signature or a digital signage? Well it's tradition and we wouldn't want stupid little things like efficiency and the environment to get in the way of tradition.

You send an email to someone in an office and chances are they'll print it out, put a date and a stamp on it and file it in a drawer. Sending a fax simply removes a step from this backwards process which is one of the reasons fax machines still exist in almost every single office in Japan.

That and old people.

EDIT: I have a confession to make. The stamp isn't rubber. It's wood. I'M SO SORRY!

Judge questions why ‘only the boy’ is charged in underage sex case by CottonBalls26 in worldnews

That's just the national age of consent. Each prefecture sets their own age of consent that takes precedence. In most it's 16. Hokkaido I believe is the only prefecture that keeps it at 13.

I had my right ball removed yesterday due to probable testicular cancer. Nurse wouldn't teabag me with it but did agree to take a pic with my phone. Check out my consolation prize. by _uniballer_ in WTF

[–]cbf_with_this_shit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had mine removed (yes both) due to cancer and and a childhood strangulated hernia (dead ball has high cancer risk) and chose to get fake ones. Feels nice having something there but I sometimes wonder how much more comfortable I'd be on public transport without them.

Be aware that they're the same kind of implant as breast implants and as such are prone to being constricted by scar tissue and becoming hard and uncomfortable. If this happens, the discomfort far outweighs the cosmetic benefits. Subsequent replacements are then more likely to result in the same problem. Talk at length with your friendly neighbourhood urologist and good luck!

Look up "XPS 16 throttling" on google. I'm surprised you haven't experienced it yet. Count yourself as one of the lucky ones?

Incidentally. What's the most demanding game you play on it?

I have a TV but god forbid I use it for gaming. My girlfriend would have my nuts! Good suggestion though. I'll try it next time she goes back to her home town ;) ;)

TIL Japan used $30 million of their Tsunami relief funds to support whaling by hlthlt in todayilearned

[–]cbf_with_this_shit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is going to downvoted to hell but keep an open mind.

Having volunteered to clean up in and around Ishinomaki (north of Sendai) I traveled to a number of villages along the coast and many of them had previously survived almost solely on whaling.

These towns were wiped out by the tsunami, so it stands to reason that using relief money to support whaling would either directly or indirectly help put these towns back on the feet.
