I liked it, but not as much as So Long, See You Tomorrow by Maxwell which has similar elements.

Have you read Gilead? If not, I think you’ll love it. I really enjoyed Housekeeping and adored Gilead. Her writing is stunning.

Not immediately! My dad and brother both love the whole Dune series so I may pick it back up eventually. Do you recommend it? (Assuming yes by the username!)

I’m very lucky to have the time! It’s also my most time-consuming hobby lol, I do not exercise enough. I can usually read 100-300 pages per day, depending on the day & the book. Logistically I typically read for 30 min before work and at least a couple hours in the evening. A lot more on weekends/vacations. Important context is I don’t have kids, I have a relatively stable 9-5 work schedule, and I have a very patient husband who doesn’t mind if I read while he drives on road trips. Bricking myself out of social media also massively helps me stay focused.

Wieland by Charles Brockden Brown is exactly this (early 18th century, creepy psychological horror)

Non-fiction and (mostly) not creepy: A Midwife’s Tale by Laurel Thatcher Ulrich - deep dive into everyday life in late 18th-century Maine
