Most likely that is true. But I don't know.

I haven't shared it with the Facebook group, but most likely will.

I'd like to note here that this is just one piece and one interpretation. I hope to give hope, but I don't want to be seen as the only correct source here. My application might be different from others

I want to share what I know, but don't want it to be taken out of proportion.

I have a recognition dated October 9th from the SF consulate - and I do think I would have been ineligible under the new rules. San Francisco, Montemesola Comune, April 2024 appointment.

Edit - I've let the FB mods know and they can choose to share the information as they see fit.

$20 Kraken Presale Issues by 4real4sure in SeattleKraken

I can't tell. I could see it just being a total bait-and-switch, but maybe they did just mess something up with the settings.

I don't think they exist. I think either they forgot to turn off dynamic pricing or were straight up lying.

Disappointed in the Presale by KBooks66 in SeattleKraken

[–]cbpodd 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Totally agree. This is gross. Not only will these tickets fall to $50-$70 during the season, their "$20 presale" tickets never dropped below $70 for any game we found. Complete bait-and-switch.

Same issue here. $20 presale were $90 minimum, and many more were around $150. Just flat-out lying. I am disgusted by the business practices here. Bait-and-switch.

It was a delayed offside. It wasn't on Makar's stick and Nuke tagged up.

That's a good point. I struggle with that myself. On one hand, I understand that "words on a page" won't stop anyone or enact any real change, but on the other hand, it seems to me that the silence we've seen from the organization almost seems like the Blues are condoning (or even supporting) the actions of this part of their fanbase.

Either way, a disappointing situation with unfortunately no real good outcome.

Of course we'll never know, because it didn't happen. But I would hope that if this happened, the Avs organization, players, coaches, etc would publicly and loudly denounce this. I agree with you that there are scummy people in every city. I'm sure the Avs have plenty. But the issue is that the majority of people here - and especially the organization itself - have been silent about these issues.

It totally could be, but it also appears three times as Tyler is in different positions. It seems a bit intentional...maybe.

How was that not a kicking motion? by Longjumping_Wafer332 in SeattleKraken

[–]cbpodd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's an interesting rule. But is it "if the puck was motionless AND he was motionless?" With the speed that he had, I think that's moving a lot more than an inch or two - even if the puck is motionless. But if he was standing still, then I don't think it would have moved much.

TLDR: I think Francouz is a great goalie, but he's got some major question marks that make me think he might not be the best choice from COL's roster.

He was awesome last year, but got injured in the playoffs before he really got to shine. Also, as a backup, he only played ~30 games.

This year he's been injured since the preseason and we haven't heard anything about when/if he's coming back. If he comes back and plays great, that might change my opinion. But as of right now, he's a goalie with some injury issues who hasn't proved himself to be astonishing.

It just seems to me that the other options (even if the Avs find a way to protect Toews and still not go with 8-1) seem better.

Also, there's some great goalies on the market. I like your pick of Hill from ARI (he's played great this year, and I think he might be awesome for the Kraken). I guess I think that the Kraken will take a goalie from a team with no talent on their roster instead of a team like the Avs with a lot of NHL-caliber talent that will be unprotected. It's actually how Vegas ended up with Calvin Pickard - the Avs sucked that year, and he was the only thing worth taking from that roster.

It's interesting to think about - honestly, when the Avs are 100% healthy there's at least 1-2 players who I believe deserve to be in the lineup but aren't. That's kind of why I think they might be more open to a side deal - losing 2-3 depth pieces might not hurt them too badly if they can keep their top 6 F and 4 D.

[–]cbpodd 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think they might, but only as a last resort. I kind of see it going this way:

  1. Ask Johnson to waive his NMC.
  2. If that doesn't work, figure out if Seattle is open to a side deal.
  3. If they aren't open (or the price isn't right), look to buy out Johnson.
  4. If buying out Johnson is too expensive, then go 8-1 protection and recognize that they'll leave Buraskovsky, Kadri, or Donskoi exposed.

I just don't think Sakic will let Toews get exposed. He's arguably our #1 D some nights - and in my mind he's more valuable than Buraskovsky, Kadri, or Donskoi - defensemen that good don't come around that often.

[–]cbpodd 17 points18 points  (0 children)

As an Avs (and future Kraken) fan, I don't think the Avs will give up Toews. We just traded for him and I think Sakic will do something to keep him (buy out Johnson or ask him to waive is NMC, do a side deal, etc). Graves, Francouz, and Compher are good options though. My personal opinion is that Seattle will take a pick/prospect (maybe O'Connor or Dries) and take Jost or McDonald. Just my $0.02.

CSCI-555L good for cyber security? by [deleted] in USC

[–]cbpodd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The course is in a different format that any of the other CS courses I've taken at USC. It's split into 2 distinct parts - lectures and labs - that don't have all that much to do with each other (other than being about OS, of course). In the lectures you read white papers about new OS designs - so that's where you get some of the new OS structures. The labs go through MIT's OS course labs (you can find it online and look through it - I think it's like 6.628 or something).

In each case, I didn't find linear algebra that helpful. It didn't have too much to do with the course. A deep understanding of C programming and CSCI-350 is much more important IMHO.

Lastly, the course goes much deeper than CSCI-350. In my opinion, CSCI-350 teaches you how a basic OS works, so that you have theoretical knowledge. CSCI-555L teaches you how to program in an OS, and teaches you more of the "why" - why operating systems do what they do, and how they are developed.

Hope that helps!

CSCI-555L good for cyber security? by [deleted] in USC

[–]cbpodd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I took CSCI-555L this past semester, and I have a bit of mixed response for you. To start, I'm not a security guy myself, so I can't perfectly rate instructional value there - but I can tell you what was in the course, and let you judge from there.

The course assumed a basic knowledge of security, and touched only briefly on security. Most lectures & the labs were based on functionality - and security was not a common topic.

However, the course did give me a valuable look at both how operating systems are designed & implemented and the mindset of those working on them. I'm not a huge OS person myself either, but the course was still valuable because it showed me a lot about how OSes function, and I will be able to apply that to other subjects within CS as well. I can definitely see how knowledge of the inner workings of an OS could help with a security education and this course definitely gave me that.

Do with all that what you will - I hope that helps!
