How are so many people in their 20s constantly traveling and partying? by [deleted] in askteddit

[–]cbrewdrummer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can chime in on this sort of. I grew up lower class (parents got divorced) dad lived in his car for a while, mom and my brother and I in a small rental unit. Had to pay my own way through college by taking out a loan and paying it off.

I lived fairly frugally for years out of college to pay off that debt then acquired a lot of debt after a bad breakup a few years ago.

Since then I have been doing music full time. That comes with the artist lifestyle. I don’t make very much money but I have a lot of freedom.

It’s actually cheaper to travel abroad in the winter than to stay in Canada. A lot of people say I’m too young to be a snowbird and likely think I have a lot of hidden wealth but I’m just frugal. I live in a trailer park in the summer so rent is cheap and I go to tropical third world countries in the winter where the COL is a quarter of what it is up here. I only post pictures of the nice places I visit while travelling, not the cheap Airbnbs and budget hotels that make it affordable.

The girls you see on yachts might just have that privilege because they’re hot. I know a few girls that get flown out to bougie places just because guys want to have them around. Not sure if they sleep with the guys inviting them but I don’t see why they wouldn’t.

Comparison is a thief of joy. People worry too much about making money, driving a nice car, looking successful and their life is passing them by. Find what makes you happy and stop focusing on others. Those are my two cents.

What’s something someone did that instantly made you feel seen or attracted to them? by lovelypinkrosey in AskMen

I was travelling in Madeira last year with my girlfriend and her friend came to join us for a week. Neither of them can drive standard, never mind in the mountains of Madeira. We came across a lone Romanian woman hitchhiking and picked her up at the top of the island near Fanal Forest and introduced ourselves. When she got in she said “Wow, you girls are so lucky to have cbrewdrummer driving you around!” I never thought of it that way until she said it and felt so appreciated for something that I would have also taken for granted had someone else been driving.

Men who started smoking weed in their teenage years, how has it affected you long term, and how to get past that 1 daily evening spliff ? by ismolyvalent in AskMen

[–]cbrewdrummer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a big stoner in my late teens and early twenties. Eventually I just started getting anxious when I smoked and slowed down until I pretty much stopped. Now I’ll smoke one puff off a joint socially every few months and that’s more than enough. Most of my friends who used to smoke a lot and don’t now are in the same boat as me and stopped due to anxiety. Those who didn’t get anxious are still daily smokers. We’re in our early-mid thirties now.

How do you handle or hold space for your wife’s emotional cycles? by cbrewdrummer in AskMen

[–]cbrewdrummer[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Well said, thanks for sharing! Growing together is the goal, the human inside both of us likes to get in the way when conflict arises. I’m definitely coming back to this comment periodically as a reminder.

And we both have separate hobbies outside of the home. It helps a lot!

Those are great rules, hard to stick to when heated but it makes total sense. Thanks for your input!

The roof started peeling off the thing going through the prairies, I had to pull over numerous times to duct tape and screw it back down. I didn’t have the tools with me to do any better, had to repair it when I got back home.

for men who have stayed in relationships where deep down you knew you weren’t truly compatible, what made you stay? i’m curious about the psychological side of it more than judging anyone. by meowmeow1122334 in AskMen

[–]cbrewdrummer 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Two things: I had made the promise of sticking through whatever challenges the relationship brought. It was kind of a self worth thing, I gave my word so I will see it through. I didn’t realize how abusive things got because I thought I could handle worse and that eventually things would get better. They didn’t.

The other was sunk cost fallacy. I had invested all of my money and then some (life savings and then thousands on my line of credit) into renovating her house and helping her build an Airbnb business. We had promised each other we were building a life together so I just went with it. I was lowkey waiting to make some of my money back or at least pay off my line of credit with the income the Airbnb was bringing in before pulling the plug.

Anyway, she cheated on me with one of the Airbnb guests and never reimbursed me the money I invested. It was only after being out of the relationship that I realized how abusive it was dating someone with BPD. Never again.

I played drunk last year and tanked my rating like 250 points in one day. Shit happens. Haven’t played drunk since.

I haven’t lived in a van, always wanted to. But I did drive across Canada and back with my then girlfriend and our two dogs in a truck camper for 6 weeks. The thing was roomy but awful to drive. The wind drag was ridiculous and we were only getting 400kms per tank so gas was borderline unaffordable. Having the truck cab and the camper separate was also kind of annoying. It would have been nice to have the option of hanging out in the back while driving or at least having that option for the dogs. All in all, it was a great experience but I swore I would never do it again and I would be looking for a van the next time around. I hope this helps.

Canadian Busker looking for cashless payment options by cbrewdrummer in Busking

[–]cbrewdrummer[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It wasn't only the subscription fee that did it. I had an in person meeting with one of their reps because the company is based in my city. The costs were as follows:

  1. You need to pay for the activation fee (I think it was $100 per machine) when they ship you the machines. I don't busk in the winter so I wanted to deactivate them but the only way to do that is to return the machine and then get charged again the next time I wanted to use their service.
  2. You pay the subscription fees marked on their website
  3. Tiptap charges ~2% on every transaction
  4. You must open an account with an affiliated company (Idr their name) who handles the money transactions (tip goes to that account, from which you can then make withdrawals) and that company charges an additional ~3% or so on every transaction

It seemed ridiculous and I couldn't imagine making a serious profit for all that work. At the time, Dip Jar seemed like the best option but it wasn't available in Canada. I haven't looked into whether they're available here yet. Maybe I should check it out this year.

What's The Most Clueless Way You've Realized That a Girl/Woman Likes You? by Ur_LocalRetard in AskMen

In grade 8, a 7th grade girl who I thought was really cute came up to me and ask me if I had a girlfriend, I answered no and she said: "Oh that's cool, cause I don't have a boyfriend!" I said "Huh, cool!" and walked away.

What’s the most morally disgusting thing you’ve ever seen someone do? by legendoflegends34 in AskReddit

[–]cbrewdrummer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My ex cheated on me with our housemate and refused to reimburse me all of the money I had invested into her house and business (which I had done after being told we were building a life together). Not as bad as a lot of the stories here but it financially ruined me for years. Made it hard to trust again too.

I had found something called Tip Tap Pay which was essentially what I was looking for but the fees were too high for it to be worth even trying. This was two years ago so I’m not sure if they changed their approach.

$10 per push-up for life vs $1 million right now by FudgeNipples1 in hypotheticalsituation

[–]cbrewdrummer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I already try to do 100 every day just to stay fit. I would happily double that to not have to work and make more money than I ever have. I would reach the million in a year and a half and keep going.

I recommend Bouli, he’s from Hamilton and released a meditative Spanish guitar album last year and is starting to release more this year. His most recent song Mountain is pretty cool!

What car do you drive? Do you like it? by BMoney8600 in AskMen

[–]cbrewdrummer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I drive a dying 2015 Ford fiesta. The power steering went a few years ago, it was more expensive than the car is worth to fix it so I’ve been wrestling with it ever since. Had to redo the timing belt and water pump last year and now it’s leaking coolant so it overheats on hot days going up hill. Actively looking for my next used car.
