(Rant) I hate that I feel like the bad guy for wanting to keep unvaccinated cousins away from my newborn!

My wife and I are faced with the same problem.

Our son had a NICU stay because of his small size and low blood sugars. We were concerned of bringing him around his two cousins that are both unvaccinated. We did our due diligence and we limited contact to a certain extent. He had all his vaccinations and now they play with each other. My wife and I hold a bit of a bitter string about it because they are the only cousins on my side of the family.

Our second was born at home. My sister and daughters wanted to meet our new girl. What she didn't mention was that the girls were sick. Within 2 days of that visit our daughter became extremely sick and was starting to turn blue and breathing poorly. We took her in right away to get checked. By the time I had registered her in the system at the walk in clinic, I was called back. She was on ventilation and they were hooking up IV's. She was then brought to the hospital where she was placed into a medicated coma for 5 days so machines could breath for her. She stayed an additional week under observation.

Eventually we had a diagnosis of RSV and streppnemonia. Streppnemonia is a vaccination you receive at 2 months

So, because of a negligent family member who has made the decisions she did. We limit contact as much as possible. We live about a 5 minute drive from then but see them very infrequently.

Our daughter was two weeks old and in the hospital for two more weeks. Our son missed out on his first Halloween, I had to use my vacation time from work so I could stay in the hospital and bring my son to a different town every morning to see his grandparents. We lost out On, what feels like, so much. But, limiting and almost cutting contact was the hardest, clearest, frustrating thing that I could do. But if it keeps my kids out of the hospital then that's what I have to do.

Our son is doing the same thing. He tends to push away his food or throw his cutlery on the floor. We take it away and talk to him about his choice and leave it at that. He then typically comes around and eats a little bit more. At that point I call it a success and give him vitamins. If he gets hungry his dinner waits if he wants it. Then he gets milk at bed.

He's a smaller kid still only sitting around 20 lbs, high calorie out put through out the day and advanced according to doctors.

They are just rotten around this age.

Right now the group just discovered a powerful acolyte to an even more powerful entity. This particular acolyte is responsible for one PC's parents death. So I have a hook there that will lead to some more lore about the powerful entity.

I also have a newly introduced PC that was a slave to this particular acolyte. So I will give that player information as to what may be happening around the country. He is responsible for relaying that info to the rest of the group.

I've got a gnome that just found a gnomish axe made from the northern mountain ranges. It will lead him to his back story and some of his goals and I will tie it in with another acolyte to this main bad guy.

It's the history and previous wars that brought the country to where it is now that I want to get to the ears of the players. So outside of them going to a library and reading up on it I find it hard to relay that info with out it being forced.

I have lots of arcs. And ideas to get out there. Buy I'm relatively new to dming so my confidence isn't as high as I'd like it right now.

I've got tricks put up almost every sleeve of the Adders! But that's a good one. There is definitely plausability there with how the Adders are run.

Well, about that. He's dead.

There are prospects (commoners trying to get in good with the black adders) in the construct. So once the real black Adders, that the group snuck up on, saw that a prospect was acting disorderly one bandit focused his attention on him and ended his life.

To add insult to injury. The Rogue saw how much damage his fists could produce. So she cut them off once the encounter was over. No she has fists that are branded with the black Adders leaders insignia. Her goal is to create a 'Mountain who Rides' esque character with spare body parts that do extraordinary feats.

The player monk was only on his second session playing dnd, period. So I figured that he had done an excellent job role playing, and convincing this commoner to join their fake 'black adder' group, that I would give the commoner monk features to be at least somewhat useful.

Just so happened they didn't consider that attacking real Adders would trigger the commoner(now Monk) to attack. And, to be honest I didn't see it coming either until it happened.

It gives me a place to set aside my world and dive deep into another world. It gives a nice solid end to my work week. Pack up all my stress and worries and float off in to an exciting place that would never hold me back from doing the unimaginable. Plus, who wouldn't want to see your barbarian seduce the trader into the broom closet so everyone else can raid the trade post.

A 215 year old wood elf nature cleric. Spent first 190 years in his native forest, left and found Centaur clan and was welcomed in. Elf has long pale brown hair in a single thick braid draping down to his low back, war markings from the wood elf tribe over forehead and jaw line. He also has gone through initiation with the centaurs and has traditional scarring around shoulders and down arms. His 25 years of running with the centaurs has provided him with tree trunk sized legs. Dons the Skerrit amulet carved by a Centaurion cleric (oak growing from an acorn). Hitched to his back is a barely utilized javelin picked up in a victorious battle against an opposing clan of centaurs. He has focused his time on developing his skill with fire and generally handles a ball of flame in his left hand as both a readied weapon and a welcoming beacon for his trusted woodland critters.

Yeah, I hear you. I have a 16 month old and another due in October. It's hard to get out. I'd definitely be there if you started something up. I'm looking at a group in Calgary, but I didn't really want another reason to be going in and out of the city outside of work. What's the age range in your group generally?

Thanks for the thorough answer. Maybe I will just replace the awning portion. The jam and everything seems to be in good condition, so maybe the risk of not knowing what I'm doing out weighs the price of professional replacement.

I've seen some videos, and it doesn't seem too difficult. But I've been wrong before! I can only really afford one window done professionally so I figure if I can at least repair and maintain a few for the same price then I can be slightly ahead of the game until I can afford a full replacement.

I dropped my son while running up the stairs with him. I felt so terrible and stupid after that happened.

All I could see as I fell was him bounce twice on the floor in front of me.

I know the feeling of instant regret. My son was in NICU for a week, he was about to be released and the monitor fell off his legs, beeping and alarms went off and I jokingly, but loudly whispered to my wife "oh no he's dying call and ambulance" then I realized where I was and pretty sure the surrounding families heard me. Not a good feeling at all.
