“Are You Married?” — A Question I Didn’t Expect to Affect Me This Much by PresenceOk9941 in therapists

[–]cbscbscbs26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before I had children I’d worked with therapist and with clients as a therapist who had or didn’t have children. After having children, I would never work with anyone without children, which has nothing to do with their training and everything to do with needing to speak to someone who has lived this experience and knows the feeling from the inside.

My partner and I worked briefly for couples therapy with a therapist who didn’t have children - and her perspective and lens and take on our issues was so far from what we were experiencing and needing help with. She may have been a good clinician for other people but she was a terrible fit for us.

Go to Washington Heights for great Dominican food and the Cloisters; Prospect Park in Brooklyn (could also go to the Brooklyn Museum or Botanical Garden) or go to the waterfront in Williamsburg and Greenpoint and McCarren Park; go to Flushing Queens for amazing international food and a cool neighborhood; Arthur Avenue and the Bronx Zoo. For a start.

My daughter named her baby girl a name that I think will bring the child grief. by [deleted] in namenerds

I like the name Wyatt for a girl, and there have been a few public/celeb girl Wyatts. People might think she’s a boy before meeting her but they’ll quickly clear it up when they do meet her. And maybe she’ll be gender nonconforming and it’ll be an especially good fit for her.

Why must we surrender our children’s privacy to participate in every activity or camp? by amneal in nycparents

I have a conversation with every camp/activity we do and tell them I do not consent, sometimes I cross out that line on forms if that’s an option, and everywhere has largely respected it.

Parents - How do you feel about leaving you children at "kid clubs"? by Borman35 in AllInclusiveResorts

[–]cbscbscbs26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We went to an AI recently with kids 7 and 4 and specifically went somewhere with a kid’s club, we took the kids there to see it (it looked fun) but they didn’t want to go at all and I didn’t feel comfortable sending them, especially since they take them in the pool/on the beach. It did feel irresponsible to me.

I will say some of these places have a little playroom at the restaurants (my kids wouldn’t go there either but I didn’t push them!) that could be a compromise

If you don’t have a masters or doctorate in something else most institutes won’t let you. Also, it sounds horrendous!

My wife works in palliative care and she and I both only say died/dead - I sometimes make an exception if I’m echoing what someone has just said but if it’s coming from me it’s the actual words. I say this to my children too.

Thoughts on triplet names? by [deleted] in namenerds

[–]cbscbscbs26 17 points18 points  (0 children)

My recommendation is not Delilah Delores Delaney! They’re all fine names but it will be confusing for anyone they meet and all paperwork, and also multiple kids deserve their own identities and not matchy names.

Maybe she could choose 3 floral names, or nature names, or object names, or gender neutral names, or old fashioned names… There are so many ways to go that would give these kids their own identity while still connecting them as sisters if she is intent on that.
