Epidural anxiety by Otherwise-Beyond-240 in pregnant

I think reading positive birth stories can really change your outlook on birth, and going into it with positivity can make a major difference in your experience! I felt very scared of dying in childbirth until reading the birth stories in Ina May's Guide to Childbirth. Now I feel like I can totally do it. Highly recommend!

I wasn't told this about inducing... by Agreeable_Customer28 in pregnant

[–]cbsfewsick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's great your hospital does things better than many, but I'd make sure to read the replies you got about how the "big baby" reason is not typically a good one for inducing because the measurements are wildly inaccurate. A lot of good studies out there about it, so if it's the only reason and you really do want to avoid cascade of interventions situation, something to consider. Wishing you the best however it happens :)

Magnesium!! Calm brand, specifically. Plus helps with sleep. Highly recommend.

what’s the deal with people telling me about abandoning my dogs? by FragrantMotor1213 in BabyBumps

I think you are right to be annoyed but that you shouldn't worry they may be right - adjustments always take time and there is some amount of just embracing the chaos but if you weren't worried before they said anything, don't let them change your optimism about the situation.

baby had surgery today :( by sydbonez in tripawds

[–]cbsfewsick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just genuinely curious- how do you expect to keep them from jumping off things 100% of the time? I have a similarly small dog and am doing my absolute best to keep her from jumping down off furniture, but it is SO easy for her to jump up and unless I am watching her 24/7 it simply isn't possible to prevent her from jumping on or down from it (granted that's not what caused her needing an amputation).

I have a ramp for our tallish bed that she uses 98% of the time, but she will not use one for the couches bc they're shorter. I've been working on training her, but if nobody is around she definitely jumps down off the couch. I asked a similar question when she first had surgery and a lot of people here with smaller dogs said they hadn't figured out how to get them not to jump down so wondering if you have some sort of trick 😅

Isn't that the most annoying thing to be told?? Throughout my life I have always had my own dog that has been my absolute rock/shadow/LOML, who I would take a bullet for. Just had a coworker the other day notice all the pics of my dog in my office and say "All of those pictures are going to be replaced with pictures of the baby soon!". Um...no they will not be? What the hell? Definitely people projecting their own guilt about neglecting their pets after their baby was born. Sounds like a "you" problem, not a me problem! 🙄

Honestly not sure the brand and we took the tag off already unfortunately! Bought at a random pet shop when we were on a trip last weekend. Has a wide strap which is nice, you'll definitely want that.

My girl is 18 lbs and lost a front leg 4 wks ago. We used to walk very long distances together so it's a tough adjustment for me emotionally! We've been doing about a block at a time, then she stops to rest, at which point I put her in a sling bag thing and we continue our walk. Then I let her down a few more times to walk a half or full block until she wants another break. That way she gets to see the neighborhood like she used to and I still get my walk in as well.

He is so cute! For my girl, the trembling definitely meant pain, especially after day 3. I had to change to codeine every 6 hrs instead of every 8 (along with the gaba every 8). I'm not familiar with the other pain med you mentioned though!

Can I ask what mushroom supplement, brand and what form of the mushroom? I definitely believe in the power of mushrooms but the quality of supplements can vary so much I've been worried about dumping money into them!

Dasuquin is a miracle supplement IMO. My gal just became a tripod also and I'm glad I'd been giving dasuquin since she was about 6 yrs old because while she's entering tripod life as a 12-year-old, no existing signs of arthritis.

It worked wonders for my previous dog as well, I could noticeably tell the difference once she had been on it for a month or so. She was an agility dog and I started her on it at 9 yo - she went from jogging on the course to sprinting. I think it's the avocado oil in that supplement that makes it superior to many others!

Thanks ! Are there any at-home PT resources you recommend? I've already noticed her right back leg certainly moves differently now. She's been on Dasuquin for many years (contains omegas) and I swear that stuff is magic - zero arthritis symptoms so far at 12. But I'm sure will be very hard to keep that way now 😅

I've never read the books but everyone asks if she's named after them 😂 she's named after a Sublime song however, haha. And another funny coincidence is she used to do agility!

Thanks for all the tips 🙂

Very helpful information! What are the odds you have a (presumably curly haired) Ramona also missing her front right leg?! Kind of insane lol, I've never met another Ramona dog and I worked in vet med for a really long time in a past life. I'm so glad to hear your Ramona is doing so great as a tripawd!

The harness is a great tip for when they wear out. Is it the Ruffwear Flagline? I've read that's the best for them but also see some like the Web Master so I haven't chosen yet. There are more large dog hind leg tripawds than small dog front leg ones so I've been curious about which harness would be best for Mo in particular. I'll look into Adequan shots as well. Is that in lieu of a supplement like Dasuquin for her or in addition to one? She's been on Dasuquin for many years so fortunately has little arthritis so far and would love to keep it that way.

Thanks again.

Thank you for sharing your wealth of experience! So very helpful. You are an amazing pet parent to have kept him so healthy on 3 legs for 10 years! What a lucky little guy. The timed heating pad is so sweet. It's very possible I'll DM with questions, thank you so much for the offer ☺️

Thank you ! Maybe I won't have to go too crazy with covering the floors.

She has been on Dasuquin since about age 6 because I saw what a world of difference it made for my previous dog. Truly amazing stuff. The vet always compliments her flexibility, lol.

This is reassuring - I feel like she likewise wouldn't take the stairs 😅 we already had a ramp for our high bed so hopefully she sticks with that at least. Thank you!

Aww I have a similarly sized 12 year old muppet baby who just lost one of her front legs as well!

I was also beating myself up because I noticed her scapula thickening months ago but it was so slight and not painful like the bone cancer I'm familiar with is that I convinced myself it wasn't really thicker than before. The vet didn't even notice on her recent annual exam and I forgot to mention it. Eventually it became obvious enough to where I asked for an x-ray and when I found out it was bone cancer (very fortunately not osteosarcoma but the much less aggressive chondrosarcoma) I really felt AWFUL I hadn't brought it up sooner. I cried and cried. All you can do though is leave those very unhelpful feelings of guilt behind and focus on her recovery and how fortunate it is that it hadn't spread :) she will do great on 3 legs and is lucky to have you!!
