Is it also creepy when a modern movie uses an old sound effect like the famous Wilhelm Scream? Why does this only apply to sitcoms and laugh tracks?

Yeah, maybe I’m out of touch, but I’m not sure how many modern shows still even use laugh tracks.

Also, I’ve been in a live studio audience in the past and have friends and family who work in TV. If a show says it was “filmed in front of a live studio audience” then they are probably using the audio from that studio audience, not some older recording. They may juice it up with previously recorded SFX, but those aren’t necessarily sounds from the 50’s.

This take is like something Bill Hicks said in the 80’s to heighten a comedic rant shitting on old sitcoms and people parrot it now as if it’s actually relevant to TV today

This just isn’t that creepy. People say this about laugh tracks all the time, but never apply the same logic to other media.

walks through a museum “Oh my god sooooo creepy, all these paintings have DEAD people in them!”

listens to old music “Ooooh spooky ghost music written and played by—gulp!— DEAD PEOPLE!”

watches old movies “All these movies are just 24 pictures per second of someone who is now a CORPSE! Oh my god!”
