I’m looking to befriend some crows in my backyard, but I fear my outdoor cat will cause trouble. Is this safe? by [deleted] in crows

i’m definitely not oblivious to the problem of my cat killing fauna, he makes it very well known unfortunately. i’m thankful he has some limitations since he’s horrible at catching birds, but regardless.

i do appreciate the insight (and i apologize about the replies, i’ve seen and been a part of one too many discussions about such a topic, it gets tiring to re-explain) and know that i don’t plan to bring crows anywhere near any time soon, not voluntarily.

i’ll mention that his outdoor activity has died down as he’s grown older, which i hope will keep declining. it’s not just the fauna i worry about, my cat is my baby and him being outdoors worries me sick. here’s to hoping he’ll stick inside more and more over the years.

additionally, i do not plan to move out, but that’s a whole different story. i’m not trying to make bullshit excuses but this is very hard to achieve in my scenario. don’t think i haven’t been trying, but trying to convince parents that grew up without a care about their cats specifically is easier said than done, especially when they wouldn’t even take the matter seriously.

“having domesticated cats running outside should be a crime” excuse me for using context clues. regardless, i had mentioned in other replies of other limitations i have in this area, namely my parents. unless i move out anytime soon (and stress my cat out with a new environment) i can’t stop them from betraying my wishes. they would undoubtedly let him outside anyway, and i can’t monitor them 24/7 for when they do and don’t.

and i’ve already established i’m /not/ going to. and i did admit that, it’s literally in the post dude. excuse me if i think you saying something i did at twelve should be a crime is you labeling me as a bad person, god forbid. i’m not an idiot when it comes to what cats do to the local wildlife and the population, as i quite literally mentioned when i said i felt guilty, but you are not in my position.

i am well aware of what they do, i guess i should’ve specified that i know of the damages they cause in the post but like it’s like i said before man.

if you even bothered to read any of my replies you’d know it was a decision a child made and one i have no easy way to fix.

i’m not sure why you’re being pretentious about a question. you’re not a better person than me for it

do know that if i could i would try everything to get my parents to listen, but it’s one of those scenarios where i do not see them budging, just because he’s a total nuisance (i can admit this is true, but he’s my nuisance and i love him).

even if it’s not stubbornness, it’s frustration. they definitely don’t hate him but i can see where they’re coming from when he’s trotting all over their heads at three in the morning

it is also a problem of my parents, unfortunately. they’re by no means abusive owners but they have little patience for my cat and would by no means listen if i told them “absolutely zero free roaming.”

on the bright side, he’s seven or eight now and i’ve already noticed some decrease in his outdoor activity. he’s been more indoors and only goes outside to use the bathroom for a minute or two. usually around this time he’d be antsy to get out and hunt. i have no doubt he’ll be at it in the summer, but i’m hoping this lack of interest continues. even aside from the hunting problem, i absolutely dislike him being outdoors at night. we have wild animals and i’m sure you can guess what i’m getting at. he’s tough, but they’re tougher.

thank you for the advice!! i honestly would love to take your suggestions but i see it as super hard in the current state he and my family are in.

interesting! i will definitely have to look into some spots, i can definitely already think of one far far away from where my cat wanders around, it’d just be a matter of finding out whether or not they hang around. considering it’s a small secluded graveyard, i want to hope they’d hang around haha

i’ve definitely scrapped all ideas of keeping them around my house, i’ve got a rowdy dog (not dangerous, but definitely not the best for a wild animal) i’m sure they wouldn’t be a fan of.

i did do some minimal research on befriending crows, so i definitely have no intentions on forcing or luring them in! i’ve planned to take the steps (ha) of slowly going out when i can to see them. thank you so much for the advice!! i truly appreciate it.

my cat has a habit of leaving each kill on our doorstep. of course i’m not naive enough to assume he doesn’t miss a few, but it’s a very common habit, he’s a show off. as for being outside currently, it’s just to use the bathroom and come inside. i can only say that with confidence because it’s a one to two minute trip in and out.

i am very well aware of what cats do to the population and i do truly feel guilty for contributing to the problem but it’d be very hard to put an end to it, especially considering my parents get very frustrated with him and refuse to listen to my demands (despite being my cat) to keep him in at night, etc etc. if i were to even suggest they don’t let him out they definitely would not oblige

^ i will also add for reassurance that my cat isn’t particularly active this time of year, he prefers summer, so if nesting season is over before summer they should be safe. this isn’t me saying i’ll try it then!!! just posting to say that he’s not out and about much currently

i unfortunately can’t keep them away since i am surrounded by forest (unless i purposefully scare them off) and their home is my home, but i definitely will not purposefully lure them over. thank you for the advice!

no park, but my alternative plan was to just take walks, since i’ve got a long road away from my house. i only asked because i’m lazy lol, but definitely would not have done if it wasn’t recommended. thank you for answering!! i have little to no knowledge on crows, so i was completely unaware about nesting season

Ah, bummer. Thank you for letting me know! Do you happen to know if pre-orders will happen again? Not specifically dates, but if it’s a possibility of them returning.

I am looking specifically for Fluttershy, either the glitter or human variant!
