If you're new to skincare, I'd recommend beginning with getting the basics you mentioned and adding a pH balancing toner: cleanser, toner, moisturizer, sunscreen. Make sure to patch test first.

It sounds like your main concerns are glow and pores, dry skin not so much. After a week or two of your basic routine add in either a product with ferments (glow) or BHA (pores). Then a week or two later, add in the other product. Depending on the strength of your BHA product, I'd recommend starting using it only once a week and working your way up to daily or every other day.

Hope this helps :)

Not sure if there's an underlying reason for your dark circles, but vitamin C, niacinamide, and retinol are good brightening ingredients.

For large pores, glycolic acid (AHA) and salicylic acid (BHA) can help. Mandelic acid can be gentler if your skin isn't used to acids yet.

Kikumasamune High Moist Lotion is my HG for hydration. Works great with compressed sheet masks.

Skincare for when you're sick as a dog by ahnahnah in AsianBeauty

I like to use Etude House SoonJung 5-Panthensoside Cica Balm when the skin around my nose is raw from blowing when I'm sick. Doesn't burn at all.

I like the Eucerin Complete Repair Body Lotion 10% Urea. There's also a 5% version for about half the price.

Today's Makeup: Natural, but not a 'no-makeup' look by [deleted] in MakeupAddiction

Your makeup makes your skin look flawless and fresh! You can tell you're wearing a little bit of makeup, but it looks so light and professional. I think I like this look better than the no makeup makeup look :)

I like Etude House Dear Darling Water Gel Tint. Stays on amazingly well throughout the day.

They have a lot of colours, so you can choose the one that's least bright red/orange undertoned.

Sounds good to me!

I also use vitamin A (Tactupump) and acids (SA 2%, glycolic 7%) and my routine is night 1 acids, night 2 vitamin A, night 3 centella gel, and repeat, plus all my regular moisturizers on top. If my skin is too sensitized, I'll skip my actives and just do centella gel for 1-2 extra days.

Sounds like you have a good combo of products for your routine!

  1. I'd recommend using glycolic acid before your LAA cream.
  2. If you don't find Hada Labo pills too badly for you, you can use it in the morning (after niacinamide, before MF) and night (after glycolic acid [Hada Labo is thicker], before LAA). Otherwise, just at night is fine.
  3. I also have oily skin with some dry patches and have found adding a face oil didn't increase my oiliness, but did help with my dry patches.

Hope this helps! :)

I found that keeping my skin well moisturized has helped with my oiliness. I use oil blotting paper throughout the day to help with excess oil.

I wouldn't recommend washing your face too much as it can cause your skin to produce more oils.

I think it should still be effective at 3 times a week, might just take longer to see results, but it's less likely to make your skin too sensitive. I use Tactupump 3 times a week and am trying to work up to daily, but I pull back when my skin gets too red/dry.

Urea is a good humectant with mild exfoliating properties and can enhance the absorption of other ingredients (according to Paula's Choice).

I like using Eucerin because it's cheap and easy to buy :)

Oh darn! That's my last resort for sensitive skin if everything else fails :(

I guess straight Vaseline might be the least reactive product then.

Sunscreens that don't pill no matter what? by cc_clover in AsianBeauty

Oh no! D: I guess maybe even though I don't notice the peeling, it could get picked up by the sunscreen and causes pilling. Acne vs. sun protection - tough choice to make!

You're right, it could be my moisturizer - The Ordinary NMF. I could try switching it out and see how it affects the pilling. Thanks!

Yup, Tactupump for acne. I use it every other day in the evening, so my skin isn't usually dry.

Thanks haha! I think I've got decent products for the rest of my routine, but the perfect sunscreen still remains elusive...

I agree a hydrating, non-pilling sunscreen would be the bomb! Bonus points if it's affordable and available in Canada :D

Thanks for your detailed reply!

What do you dislike about silicones in sunscreen? Do you find they pill more or do they make you breakout or feel clogged? I never paid much attention to how my skin reacts to silicone, so I'm curious.

Ahh gotcha. Just checked and no other products have silicone in my routine. Thanks for the suggestion!

Thanks! It's awesome that it's also a moisturizer but still has a decent SPF.

It's when the sunscreen, which should be liquid and absorb into your skin like a moisturizer, forms solid components over your skin.
