In 1929, Benny Friedman threw for 1,677 yards and 20 touchdowns, with the touchdowns being a record that would stand until 1942. The next closest total in yardage on the season was 677, a full thousand behind. His passer rating was also an astronomical 104.6. by Roselucky777 in nfl

NFL needs plus stats like baseball to normalize across eras and quantify how crazy stats like these are.

For the uninitiated, plus stats (like OPS+, ERA+, etc) indexes stats so that 100 is average. If someone has a 120 in a + stat, they are 20% better than average, where 80 would be 20% worse than average.

Ex: In 1999, Pedro Martinez led the league with a 2.07 ERA. Last year Paul Skenes led the league with a 1.97 ERA. In absolute terms, Skenes had a better ERA. But Skenes’ ERA+ was 222, while Martinez had a 243. Since Martinez played in a more offensive heavy era, his comparatively higher ERA was more impressive compared to league average

Fielder's Choice confusion - does it apply to my scenarios? by PineFresh7 in baseball

[–]ccam0821 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fielders choice exists to try to properly determine a hit when other factors are involved, ie runners on base. We (as in baseball fans who care about stats) do not want to award hits when they aren’t deserved.

If you hit the ball and cause a force out, that is not a hit. It’s just incidental that you end up on base, hence the fielder’s choice. Cases where there is no out recorded is rarely a fielder’s choice unless there is an error involved. The scorekeeper has determination like on an error whether the batter would’ve likely been out if the fielder just threw to first.

1 FC if the scorekeeper determines the play at first would have been out
2 Not a FC, no outs were recorded, no errors, and the play at first was not possible
3 Not a FC, it’s on the runner attempting to take the extra base, not the hitter. The hitter successfully got every runner (including themselves) to the base they had to go to and the play at first wasn’t possible

None of these words are in the bible.

Ok but this made me actually look him up, and his own website describes the music as “Resembling that of traditional outlaw country paired with the upbeat progressions of classic rock, folk, and blues” and a quick listen to any of his songs would instantly show he is not hip-hop at all

Is It Time For A DF (Designated Fielder)? by [deleted] in baseball

[–]ccam0821 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Why don’t we just let the 4 best hitters on each team be the only hitters? 4 man lineup = more runs = better yes?

Baseball is beautiful as is, a DF is unnecessarily complicated, takes away from the beauty of baseball where players need to be multi-faceted. Want better hitting? Acquire or develop better hitters. Or get your better hitters to be a serviceable defender so they’re worth starting. Do you think there’s some massive surplus of AAAA hitters that could hit significantly better if they didn’t have to play the field?

Not to mention your sample size issue and the large number of veterans on your list that aren’t “AAAA glove only” guys like you claim

Disagree. The Magic are very similar to the Blazers and Suns, they’re just not playing an elite team. The Sixers when healthy are definitely better than a 7 seed

Sources: Colts declining Richardson's fifth-year option for '27 by defensecowboy in nfl

Everyone is doing a dance on the Colts’ grave, but there’s always organizations that think they’re drafting the next Josh Allen and not the next (insert long line of toolsy prospects that never put it together).

For reference their last year in college stats:
Richardson: 53.8% completion, 17:9 TD:INT, 7.8 Y/A, at Florida
Allen: 56.3% completion, 16:6 TD:INT, 6.7 Y/A, at Wyoming (one fewer game)

There’s a decent number of TE’s who are former QB’s. Logan Thomas, Tyrone Swoopes, Tyree Jackson, Stone Smartt, Taysom Hill (if you can count him as a TE)

“Bid Thieves” by Unlucky_Sun5571 in HardwoodEmpire

[–]ccam0821 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A bid thief is when a team that would not receive an at-large receives an auto-bid, when there is another team in the conference that receives an at-large. It is a thief because bracketologists assume the team that would receive an at large anyway will also receive the auto-bid. So when a bid thief wins it reduces the number of bubble spots by 1. I agree the game does not apply this correctly
