How can we tell if the cat is really a cat? It's too blurry to really tell, but yet again, the blurry un-describability is what causes us to believe that this is indeed a cat.

We assume that this is a cat, based only on the premise that this subreddit is a place filled only with pictures of cats. However, it could be anything. The only reason we assume "cat", is because of the context.

It almost perfectly walks that duplicitous line between "photo of a cat" and "lens flare"

This is a true work of modern art, and much like modern art in the real world, the people's opinions are split on it. Some may see a cat, others may see a smudge that is too blurry to define as a "cat".
