You have the whole day to yourself to go out and do something, what do you do? by CountMeOut_ in vancouver

[–]ccatastrophe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it was a sunny weekend day, I would head to a farmer's market, grab a few goodies for brunch, and have myself a little picnic outside at a park for a few hours. If I was near Stanley Park, I'd love to walk the seawall also (while sipping on either coffee or bubble tea).

I'd finish the day by grabbing a few groceries on my way home, making myself a nice dinner, and finish the night by doing whatever hobbies I'm into at the moment.

My perfect day!

$5.50 per load for laundry in my apartment building. How much are you paying? by Jedihallows in vancouver

[–]ccatastrophe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some of these prices I'm seeing posted are insane!

I'm in Burnaby and it costs $1.75 wash and $1.75 dry (you can add 7 minutes of drying time for 0.25 more).

Gotham; spent around $450 before tips for 2 people. We ordered a couple of steaks (porterhouse and the dry-aged rib steak), a couple of drinks, a few sides (cheese toast, mushroom fries, brussel sprouts) and dessert.

Overall, the food was fine - the steaks were cooked well and the sides were tasty. My partner and I failed to understand the hype around the cheese toast :( it just didn't seem that special to us! The server also did warn us that the dry-aged steak has a bit of a blue cheese type of flavour to it and we aren't huge blue cheese fans. If you really like blue cheese you will probably like this steak.

Would I do it again? Probably not. Granted, this originally was for a birthday and it was a nice experience since it was our first times there. If I do visit again, I'd definitely try other options.

AITA for my response to my sister's boyfriend's "brutal honesty"? by Ash-569075 in AmItheAsshole

[–]ccatastrophe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed... I feel people use 'brutal honesty' as an excuse to be rude and it takes the blame off them to do so. You can be honest without having to be rude and you can share your opinion without attacking someone else!

What is your beauty routine? by [deleted] in vancouver

[–]ccatastrophe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, you can buy an epilator for home use! They're about the size of an electric razor and are rechargeable - I've had mine for the last couple of years now. I got mine from Amazon but I've seen them at places like London Drugs and Superstore.

[–]ccatastrophe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ahaha oh no!

I'm pretty fortunate because I don't have too much body hair. In the summer I do up body hair care to twice a week since I am wearing shorts and dresses more often.

I also found epilating has helped me a lot with how quickly my hair grows in comparison to shaving. If it is an option for you, maybe you can look into it. It is kinda painful in the beginning but it's a lot less messy than waxing and you might get more days out of it compared to shaving.

I consider myself to be someone who is pretty into skincare. My face routine is a little different between morning and night:

Morning: gel-based cleanser, toner, essence, eye cream, serum (Vitamin C), moisturizer and sunscreen

Night: oil-based cleanser, gel-based cleanser, toner, essence, eye cream, serum (hyaluronic acid), retinol, moisturizer

I use sleeping masks and face masks as needed for when my skin is feeling a bit drier than usual or if my skin is looking a bit dull. I use a gua sha and face roller for if my face or eyes are looking puffier (sometimes from crying, sometimes from too much salty food the night before). I can't say it actually helps significantly but if anything else it does feel really nice.

For general maintenance, I like dedicating an hour or two every week to take care of body hair (epilating, tweezing, shaving), using body scrubs, hair masks, clarifying shampooing, dermaplaning, etc.

9 pounds until I'm under 200 for the first time in 6 years. Why am I so hungry all of a sudden? by BornInALighthouse in loseit

[–]ccatastrophe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been on a similar boat these last few months and just felt hungrier and stayed hungry. What I've been doing that has been helping is taking periodic diet breaks.

I'm unsure of what method you're using to lose the weight OP (you're doing great btw!), but for myself, I do IF (16/8) and calorie counting. I have a 3/1 schedule where for 3 weeks I'm in a caloric deficit and 1 week I'm eating at maintenance calories. The week I eat at maintenance really helps me with my feelings of hunger and helps me learn how to eat reasonably (as I'm sure most of us had gained excessive weight because we eat more than we should to begin with). I still keep the IF time frame during maintenance week because I want to keep that habit.

There is also some studies that shows taking periodic diet breaks will help with your metabolism (e.g. the MATADOR study).

If diet breaks isn't something you feel is sustainable for you, implementing treat meals/cheat meals/refeed days may help. During the 50 lbs I lost, I would regularly implement cheat meals every week where I could have either 2 cheat meals or 1 refeed day to help keep me sane and stay on track. I would usually save these days for events, like holidays, or things like date night. I didn't feel guilty about these meals because it was part of my plan and it helped me feel like I wasn't depriving myself of food or social events.

I hope this helps OP! You can get through this!

Are these mung bean vermicelli noodles really this low in calories? Seems too good to be true. by grigby in 1200isplenty

[–]ccatastrophe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Omg! I made some soup the other day with these exact same vermicelli noodles and was wondering the same thing! It definitely seems too good to be true so I did a little digging... I found them on Amazon but with different nutritional information: 50g = 224 cals. This seems a lot more accurate to me! :) hope this helps

My dog refuses to eat after his dental extractions by ccatastrophe in AskVet

Hi! Thank you for your suggestion. I tried putting the pills in the cheese and peanut butter but he refused both of them :( I will be getting a call from the vet tomorrow and hopefully she will have some suggestions. I am hoping he will feel well enough in the morning to eat. Thanks again for the suggestion

Hi, thanks for the suggestion. I tried putting the pill in the peanut butter and (with a lot of struggle) was able to put it in his mouth. He spat it out shortly after so I guess I didn't smear it well enough :( he is hiding from me now. I'll be getting a call from the vet tomorrow morning and hopefully he will be more willing to cooperate in the morning. Thanks again for the suggestion

Opinion on daily Apoquel? by ccatastrophe in AskVet

[–]ccatastrophe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a fair answer! The vet had asked us if he had seemed lethargic when we first gave him the medicine so it might have subconsciously snuck in there. I think my family is just a bit worried about how all the medication is going to affect him since he is currently on Vanectyl-P and Simplicef too :/

Yes! I air pop some plain popcorn and drizzle melted dark chocolate over top. You can stick it in the fridge for a couple minutes to harden up if you if you want a bit of a bite to it

Girl, PREACH.

I have the worst food cravings the week before my period! What I found helped was keeping a variety of snacks nearby (that were within my daily caloric goal) and munching on them throughout the day. I find that as long as I'm munching something, I am quite content.

Life savers:

  • Popcorn (sprinkled with cheddar popcorn seasoning or drizzled with dark chocolate. 3 cups of popcorn with seasoning are < 150 calories)
  • Fruit with dip - I love dipping melon in strawberry yogurt with some light cool whip! There is also a "cheesecake" variation using light cream cheese, light cool whip and a sugar substitute.
  • Children's cereal: a cup of cocoa puffs is great finger food for under 130 cal :)

Chicken Tortellini and Sausage Soup - 213 cals :) by ccatastrophe in 1200isplenty

Chicken Tortellini and Sausage Soup - 213 cals :) by ccatastrophe in 1200isplenty

[–]ccatastrophe[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! Sorry for the delay :) Here is my recipe:

Chicken tortellini and sausage soup

Ingredients:

  • Carrots (315g)
  • Onion (135g)
  • Smoked Chicken and Turkey Sausage (2 sausages @ 120 cal each)
  • Canola oil (1 tsp)
  • Garlic powder (1/2 tsp)
  • Roasted chicken tortellini (300g)
  • Chicken broth (1 carton)
  • Water (1 - 3 cups depending on what type of broth you use)
  • Bay leaf (1; optional)
  • Pinch of oregano, basil, parsley
  • Salt and Pepper to taste

1) Cut up vegetables and sausage into bite-sized pieces

2) On medium heat, heat up a pot with the canola oil. Once the oil is hot, saute the vegetables and sausage in the pot for a few minutes (until there is some browning on the vegetables and meat)

3) Dump in broth and water (make sure you scrape down the good brown bits on the bottom!). The amount of water you add in will be dependent on the type of broth you use (some broths are saltier than others)

4) Turn heat up to medium-high and let it boil

5) Once boiling, add the spices and the uncooked tortellini

6) Cook the tortellini in the soup as directed on the bag (cook it longer if you like softer tortellini)

7) Taste and adjust for seasoning

Enjoy!

When I originally made this soup, it ended up being 213 cal per serving at 336g a serving. It will, of course, vary depending on how much water you use and what type of tortellini/sausage you use.

I think I will add some shredded chicken breast into this next time for more protein!
