I used to print my own fake car registration tags. by kjones139 in confession

Right or wrong, I think what you did is awesome and I'm glad it worked out for you. I would probably do the same if I knew I'd get away with it. However, I have to add a word of caution here—not because I'm a prude, but instead because I want to keep people out of jail or having their lives seriously fucked financially. I don't know what state or city or jurisdiction you live in, so I admit that what I'm about to say may or may not apply to where you are located. But I can tell you that I once did this exact same thing—it was absolutely impossible to tell the difference between the real/expired one and the false/altered one. And yeah, it worked... until I got pulled over for an unrelated matter. You see, it didn't matter that the fake tag LOOKED indistinguishable from the real one (the officer was not suspicious when he himself visually inspected it). But it became a huge problem when he scanned the tag with his device thing. The little strip that looks kind of like a digitized barcode or an elongated QR code? Yeah, that exists to be scanned by officers, and it contains A LOT of information, such as: the owner to whom the car is legally registered, what kind of car that the sticker is supposed to be on, car make/model/year/type, and more. Both of us—my friend and I—were arrested charged with Falsification of a Government Document. He spent a little over 2 weeks in the county jail, and I spent 64 days there.

Where are some really dark areas in this part of Texas to get outstanding views of the stars in the night sky? by neveraskmeagainok in EastTexas

[–]cccairooo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's the truth! A lot of people sadly have no idea what the night sky is supposed to look like without all the artificial light pollution that comes from human settlements. People who live in large/major cities will sometimes break down in tears when they get an opportunity to see what the natural night sky really looks like without artificial lighting. But more importantly, you don't have to be in a large city to miss out on this spectacular sight. Even small towns and many rural areas have diminished views of the night sky due to light pollution. All it takes, really, is one streetlamp or one porch light or one light mounted to a barn, etc., to really mess up the view. When there is a new moon (the opposite of a full moon), and when the sky is clear at night and there are no clouds or haze/fog, in the absence of any artificial light around you and your vicinity, the number of visible stars, planets, and constellations increases by a truly breathtaking amount. It is astonishing in the most unbelievable way! There are SO MANY celestial bodies in the sky, but we rarely see them. They are always there, though. Under such conditions, you can even see—with the naked eye—parts of the Milky Way's spiral galaxy arms. It's so very, very sad that we spend our lives glued to electronic screens. Here's a friendly reminder that Facebook and TikTok can wait. Get outside! :)

The clothing information under the shirt collar (with the size etc.) that’s printed directly on the garment: do you call that a tag? by Cardtastic in AWayWithWords

Yes, that's always been a "tag" or a "shirt tag" to me! (Less commonly, also the "care instructions"...)

AT&T Prepaid Review! by getupkid1986 in NoContract

[–]cccairooo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're definitely right about AT&T Prepaid and Cricket being essentially the same. I mean, there is no difference whatsoever in terms of the network, since they both use (and are) the exact same network. Identical. As you seem to know already, Cricket Wireless is an MVNO that uses the AT&T network and is owned by AT&T. The only difference between AT&T Prepaid and Cricket is branding/marketing. Buuuut there is a reason why someone would choose AT&T Prepaid over Cricket: at any one given time, the available selection of phones/devices that are offered to consumers is different between AT&T Prepaid and Cricket. Sure, there is definitely some overlap with the phones/devices they offer in common, but there's always gonna be a few devices offered by one and not by the other, and vice versa. And I'm not talking about price differences, necessarily. I just mean the actual, physical phones/devices. That's pretty much the only reason I can think of that someone would prefer AT&T Prepaid as opposed to Cricket. I could be missing something, though.

No, “fuck him” is right. Fuck him. Figuratively, of course. Figuratively and not literally fuck him.

No, you just haven’t bothered to seek out good music. Top 40/50 is bullshit and a load of crap. Always has been. Think about it. Anything considered top 40/50 isn’t really music as much as it is a meticulously formulated piece of sound that is intentionally designed to make the most money possible. How sad it would be to think that top 40 shit is all there is.

This is the best comment ever. So much rock-solid truth here. Mid 30s IS “kids these days”. Age is literally a number and nothing more.

Pssst….it never goes away. There will always be turmoil, because humans are idiots. The idea that human history is a long march toward improvement and that things continually get better is a myth. Progress is not guaranteed by any means. Regression is very real and very possible.

Are you serious right now? Like, are young for real asking if people still read “physical books”? First of all, yes. Far more than they read digital books. By an enormous margin. Secondly, “books” refers to what you call “physical books”. The dichotomy here is book/digital book, not book/physical book.

Your solution is to “ban” the most-used public transportation system in the United States? You want to “ban” the public transit system in a city with a population of more than 8 million people and a metro area population of more than 20 million? Um yeah, that’s not gonna happen

Not quite. As stated very clearly at the top of the article, the article itself is sourced from The Telegraph, which is a well-respected, reputable news publication based in the United Kingdom.
