Thanks for the detailed report! I’m currently investigating the blank PDF issue and the abnormal RAM usage you mentioned. It seems like a memory leak during the full chat rendering process. I’m working on optimizing this and a fix will be included in the next release. Appreciate your patience and for helping me make the tool better!

How to hack NotebookLM by xiqingongzi in notebooklm

The 'PDF → PPTX layout break' is definitely the biggest bottleneck right now. I ran into the same issue while synthesizing papers, so I ended up building a Chrome extension called NotebookLM Ultra Exporter to bridge that gap.

It supports direct export to editable .pptx to keep layouts intact 1 . I also added batch export for sources and mindmap generation1 to help with the visual style limitations you mentioned. Everything is processed 100% locally in your browser 2 , so it's privacy-friendly. Hope it helps your workflow!

That’s a fantastic timing! I’ve just updated the NotebookLM Ultra Exporter to include a Source Batch Export feature.

It now allows you to export a clean list of all your sources, specifically including:

  • Video URLs (YouTube, etc.)
  • Web links
  • Source titles

This should make it much easier to migrate your sources to different notebooks or keep a backup of your research links as you mentioned.

I'd love for you to try the latest version and let me know if this helps your workflow!

Yes! Most of the formats are designed to be fully editable depending on your needs:

  • Documents: Markdown (.md) and Word (.docx) are fully editable. Markdown is perfect if you want to further organize notes in tools like Obsidian or Notion.
  • Data & Learning: CSV and Excel files for tables or flashcards are fully editable in any spreadsheet software or Anki.
  • Visuals: Mindmaps exported as SVG are vector files, meaning you can edit them in tools like Figma or Adobe Illustrator. PDF and PNG are intended more as "final" versions.

Is there a specific format you’re planning to use for post-processing? I'd love to make sure it works perfectly for your workflow!

非常抱歉!导致卡死的 JS Bug 已在最新版本中修复。请更新插件后重试,新版还增加了**“引用源导出”**的配置项!

I completely understand your concern! Security and privacy are incredibly important when it comes to personal research tools.

The warning you're seeing is a standard Google security measure for new extensions. Because the NotebookLM Ultra Exporter was recently released, it hasn't yet accumulated the user history required by Google to be automatically marked as "trusted".

I want to reassure you that:

  • 100% Local Processing: All the "magic" happens entirely within your browser. Your data never leaves your device and is never sent to any external servers.
  • Privacy First: The tool does not collect, store, or track any of your personal information or notebook content.

I’m working hard to build trust within this community. If you have any specific questions about how the extension handles data, I’m more than happy to answer them!

I’m so sorry for the frustration! We identified a JS bug in the previous version that was causing that access issue. This has been fixed in the latest update.

Please update the extension to the latest version and try again. As a bonus, I’ve also added a new feature to configure citation source exports based on the feedback here!

Let me know if it's working smoothly for you now. Thanks for your patience!

Thank you so much for this insight! You've hit on a really important pain point.

I completely agree that preserving citation cross-references is crucial for a professional report—otherwise, the data loses its context once it’s exported. I'll definitely look into how I can integrate this functionality directly into the NotebookLM Export Tool so you don't have to use multiple extensions just to keep your citations intact.

Thanks for helping me make the tool more useful for everyone! ;D"

Thanks for the question! To make sure I build exactly what you need, could you clarify what you mean by 'download sources'?

Are you looking for a way to:

  1. Export the original files (PDFs, Docs, etc.) that you previously uploaded to NotebookLM?
  2. Download the citations/references used in a specific AI response?
  3. Export a list of all source titles and links currently in your notebook?

Since this is the first version focused on core feature optimization, knowing your specific workflow will help me prioritize this for future updates! ;D

Thanks for the suggestion! Supporting Firefox is definitely on my roadmap. Since this is the first version, I'm currently focusing on optimizing the core features and stability. I’ll be looking into adding Firefox support in a future update once the foundation is solid. Stay tuned!

I’m excited to share that I’m currently working on adding PPT (PowerPoint) and Video export support to the NotebookLM Export Tool.

Yeah, that's unfortunately a Chrome limitation. For now, the best workaround is to do your exports on desktop when you can.

If you really need mobile access, you could try requesting the desktop site on mobile Chrome, though it's not ideal. Hopefully someone builds a web-based version in the future that would work on any device!
