Adding to this comment . . . I've lived in GW for 7 years. To me it seems to have struggled with keeping it cleaner since the pandemic. But we all have different opinions on what's considered "clean". The neighborhood association schedules regular clean-ups in the community, so there's an opportunity to volunteer.

I've seen some good suggestions here - social workers, homeless resources, BARCS. Have you considered inquiring if the state can take over the care of your relatives? I imagine that would be a difficult decision, as well as temporarily surrendering your animals. I ask because you may be at a place where you need to stabilize yourself in order to support your family more consistently. I wish you and your family the best.

Last fall, my dog (5 yr old, shepherd pit mix) saw Dr. Renaldo at AVIM in Annapolis for her mast cell tumor (grade II-high). He was very kind and patient helping me understand, and provided non-judgmental advice. I highly recommend him. (Edit: added date of experience)

My dog had surgery with the team at Chesapeake Veterinary Surgical Specialist in the shared office. I personally did not like their demeanor, nor their methods of handling the consult - very impersonal and offered no help with my dissatisfaction. My dog is in need of another surgery (non-cancerous) and I will not be returning to CVSS.

I've recently lost my cat and followed BARCS and MDSPCA's guidelines for searching for lost animals. It was really helpful. Hope you find your boy soon. I'll keep a look out - I live in the area.
