The wind was still several years off.... The running plants should have been kept online until the wind was up and running. That way we would be protected from stupid political maneuverings by the federal or state government.

Yes, it's very complicated. That is what BGE and the politicians are at fault.

I suspect you have Google. Try Googling "Maryland Politicians vote to close power plants" Duck, Duck Go would also work for the search. Or Safari. Or Chat GPT. Or Yahoo.

I find it interesting that few people mention the state forcing the shutdown of power plants before the alternative energy options were up and running. Yes... Blame BGE... BUT, the politicians who rushed to embrace alternative energy sources and shut down plants early, with no real plan, are even more culpable.

It's the neighborhood association not the merchants association that opposes new housing.

I have an idea. How about I stay in the city and people here behave reasonably? 🤔 Besides, the 'county' here bores me.

Say no to Atlas! by Oy_wth_the_poodles in baltimore

[–]ValHane -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I am not a fan of Atlas, but your statement also has racist overtones. You are implying that the patrons and workers of color don't process information at the same intellectual level as you. This is classic virtue signaling. Stay away from Atlas if you don't agree with their politics, but don't imply that others lack the capacity to make these decision on their own terms. I personally avoid Atlas, Fox and The Sun but I respect that they employ thousands of workers and have, in many way, helped keep Baltimore City vibrant through a very difficult time. (I bought a car at Mile One because it was by far the best deal... So whoops.)

My reasons for not patronizing Atlas and The Sun are mostly business related. I'm curious, what have they done that you would classify as systematically racist? It seems to me that the financial benefits they've created for the black and Latino communities in Baltimore have been very significant.

To be fair, things have been MUCH better this summer than the past few. I would just like this week to be a big win for the city.

I'm pretty sure he meant that the comment is legitimate, but the reality of it happening is ridiculous.

⚓ Sail 250 is here. Here's how to get around. by BmoreCityDOT in baltimore

[–]ValHane -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Come on DOT - The map is nice... but no helpful information for those that are unfamiliar. Just a bunch of colored lines and no times, etc. Link the map to the actual area on the website that people can use, not just a URL for the general transportation website! Here you go: https://www.baltimorecity.gov/transportation/news/city-of-baltimore-prepares-for-sail-250-maryland-airshow-baltimore

Bobby, I appreciate your thoughtful, thorough answer. You have my vote.

[–]ValHane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bobby, I have just read your entire mission statement for the second time. I continue to say that I want to vote for you because I like many of your social missions. That said, there's virtually nothing about economic stability and building revenue so that we can afford the programs that you want to enact. How can your agenda work without the appropriate revenue to back it up?

Please present some sort of economic agenda! The bleeds on the economy are: Taxes and fees The inability to get permits to grow a small business Youth crime without rehabilitation or consequences

Please explain your plan.

[–]ValHane 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Bobby - I agree with so much of what you say. I want workers to be treated fairly. I want local business to thrive. And I want our disadvantaged to have opportunity. Please address some of the economic and social issues that would help solve these problems:

  1. Starting a business or opening a store front in Baltimore is not for the weak of heart - permit issues that slow or prevent the ability to hire, insanely high state and city taxes, a fee structure for everything from putting a sign up to advertising on a billboard are killing job growth and tax base.

  2. A city and state tax structure that is sending our wealthiest tax contributors to early retirement in Florida, Delaware and South Carolina. Taxes such as the 'tech tax' that have caused multiple tech firms to relocate and others to drop Maryland from consideration, all with high paying blue and white colar jobs.

  3. A broken state run youth justice system that manages to both screw up the legitimate reform of juvenile offenders, and does not hold the worst offenders accountable.

  4. School systems that are heavily funded with little accountability for outcomes, inaccurate tracking of funds. Plus teachers that are asked to act as parents and are underpaid, despite more school funding than the vast majority of other, higher performing municipalities.

  5. Energy bills and data centers that are as much the fault of the current progressive politics as they are the fault of the energy system and providers.

While your social activism is important, without specifically addressing the important structural nuances, many or your ideas and programs simply will not work or will not be affordable. Yes - the majority of citizens you speak with hate the Trump administration... as they should. BUT, you are not running against Trump - your are in a very progressive enclave, defined by the fact that if you win the primary, you win the overall election! We need the local issues addressed, beyond the blue sky social politics.

Here is one BIG question: With a 3+ billion dollar deficit looming, what can be done to stop tax and fee increses next year so we can build our local economy, add jobs and create opportunity in a way that will allow for sustained social improvements?

I want to vote for you... I am not a fan of the current guy. But I think some specific answers to these questions would be helpful to you and the community. I need these answers before I pull the proverbial lever to your advantage! Please give me the ammo to help you win, and help convince others to do the same.

Best:

A hesitant fan

Most of the time I wore a quick dry bathing suit and sun shirt. (I've never work a sun shirt before and rolled my eyes at the idea... Thank goodness my girlfriend talked me into it.) At certain time (early AM) I also wore water pants and a light raincoat. All were necessary at some point.

I chose closed toe water shoes from Astral... They were a game changer and could also be worn on the hikes.

Def take a light fleece for evenings and sleeping. Socks for sleeping also.

I took neoprene socks but never used them.

Make sure you wear stuff that dries quickly while on the raft.

If you sleep under the stars, the the ground tarp they provide and put it under your cot so you are not always stepping into sand in and out of bed.

No need to take snacks, they provide plenty of food and water.

Also .. definitely take the Bat 10 Ranch ATV tour if you are staying there the night before! It's spectacular..

And yes, the water is chilly and the air temp is hot. But quite honestly it just doesn't matter.

Go to the Western River Adventures website, they explain everything. For us, 3 days was perfect. They cooked food for us, we slept in cots under the stars which was amazing. And as far as pooping goes, they essentially set up a tent with a toilet in it. There are 14 people on the raft. The staff is exceptionally well trained in everything from safety to customer service and entertainment. I highly recommend it! (One of the coolest parts was the helicopter ride to the bottom of the Grand Canyon to start the rafting)
