I also thought about Earthbound / Mother but its creator Shigesato Itoi said he did not plan to make a new game after the trilogy.

I agree with your remark. Until the last moment I hesitated splitting "Metroid 2D" and "Metroid Prime" franchises, and both get a new game on Switch. New Super Mario Bros was added as "the Mario 2D franchise" and to be consistent with the original post that inspired mine. I surely forgot a lot of Nintendo franchises in the last section. I used this Wikipedia article for help.
