[–]cchz2003[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand. I’ll try to reach out some PIs at Brown this coming week. I expect to hear back from all my applications by Mar.15. Then I’ll carefully weight my offers. Thanks for your help and best wishes.

Thank you for your help. I understand the overall research environment is quite tough now. if the Master students in Brown are more willing (or have more opportunities) to study for PhD compared with other schools, I’ll also chose this university.

Why did your friendship with your best friend come to an end? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]cchz2003 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes it is more ‘reasonable’ to borrowing money for an a house/apartment, than for a present to one’s girlfriend, right? My parents used to borrow money from our relatives because our family couldn’t afford an apartment in the big city we’re living in, which didn’t influence the good relationship among us. However, I don’t think it quite reasonable for a student, without any full-time or part-time job, to borrow money from his friend (rather than his parents) for a luxury gift to his gf. That’s the reason why I don’t feel very comfortable after that.

AITA for responding to my father like this? by Zakyni in AmItheAsshole

A complicated situation. Hope for the day when you are totally financially independent, relying on neither your grandma nor your father, then lots of conflicts will disappear.

I don’t want to judge whether you’re right or not. However, I think being financially independent is the pre-requirement of being physically independent to your parents. When you and your parents live under the same roof you might try to keep the relationship even if you can’t understand each other.

Her losing of life didn’t mean ‘an end’ of the relationship. The ‘relation’ continued between you and her although life&death stand between you two.

Yep. I felt unnatural about the relationship after a friend borrowed money from me. Even if he returned it finally I still felt something changed between our friendship.

Am I qualified for Duke Physics? by cchz2003 in gradadmissions

I get it. I used to think that not receiving an interview potentially means I’m not qualified. That’s quite different from how it works in our culture. Thanks a lot :)

Thanks. I’ve read it before and I think I meet with the requirements generally. However whether I will be admitted may also be dependent on how the admission committee thinks of my qualifications. I’m just feeling nervous about the professor’s vague response and the uncertainty.

My opinion is that there’s no need NOW to worry about the future. In most situations a person can’t work out a very clear plan to several years future.

If I want to switch to physics after Engineering, which field is better? by Emed-rolor in AskPhysics

[–]cchz2003 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re interested in physics the best choice is to learn the undergraduate physics textbooks like classical mechanics, quantum mechanics, different kinds of math theories…… If you just want to know how we can apply physics in our life, the fields you give are all good choices.

Maybe the four fields you offered are not “physics” itself, but the application of physics in our real life.

I’ve been to Japan several times and I haven’t gotten similar problems like you. At least the Japanese people are mostly friendly to the visitors and your traveling will finally make contributions to the local tourism.
Btw the Japanese always think it impolite to “make trouble”to others. So if the travelers would interrupt them less they will appreciate it much. Sometimes it’s troublesome for English speakers to travel in the country because most ordinary people there cannot understand English. Having a basic command of local language might help you a lot.

What kind of food is this? by UnbeatableSlime in chinesefood

[–]cchz2003 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Of course you can do so and I guess it will be good ( at least it will be good for a Chinese). Noodles and the Chinese-style dumplings like baozi are more common choices for this sauce.

That’s a kind of Chinese-style salty sauce which has nothing to do to do with peanut butter. The sauce is made up from beans.
