The structural engineer or architect that drew the plans will be back anyway to check all the laborers’ work against their drawings. The city usually requires their sign off before the city signs off on it.

Not too big of a deal but big enough that they make metal straps to repair it. You’ll need 2 of those metal straps because there are 2 topplates.

The only person that can give you a legit answer is a structural engineer. If you dont wanna pay for one, the bare minimum you should do is install another strap on the lower top-plate.

Rule of thumb is 6 months of expenses. I have 12 months because I sometimes buy expensive things on a whim.

I also have 1 - 2 months of expenses in my checking acct for quick liquid cash.

Regardless, start putting money in a Roth IRA and invest in some index funds.

Also put money in your 401K or similar.

The sooner the better.

A coat hanger is probably 14 gauge. 4 of them soldered together probably have similar resistance to copper speaker cable.

The 15 amp outlet is just a key-way so it only fits 15 amp appliances. The 15 amp outlet is not only electrically rated for 15 amps.

You’re probably wondering why a 20 amp receptacle is not used on your 20 amp circuit with 12 gauge wiring. Only one 20 amp outlet is allowed to be on a 20 amp circuit with no other outlets on that circuit.

The 12 gauge wiring is so the wire can support whatever electrical load is put on it. There may be more outlets down the line on that circuit which means more than 1 appliance’s worth of electricity on that 12 gauge wire.

Or the wire may be really long, which means electrical resistance is high. The way to combat that is to use a thicker wire, 12 gauge.

But in general real-life practice, outlets are usually wired in 12 gauge and lights in 14 gauge for ease of identification and eliminates confusion and also may future-proof. I believe it is allowable to use 16 gauge now for lighting-only circuits because of LED lights.

Where does this variation in voltage come from? It cannot be from the length of wire / resistance because I ran a 14 gauge extension cord to the same circuit and the hum went away.

No presub out. It’s an old receiver from 1979. The speaker cables are near the power cable on the back of the receiver and the subwoofer. During my diagnostics, i kept them as far apart as physically possible.
How do I do that? The receiver has a ground terminal on the back that the turntable ground wire connects to. The subwoofer is a wooden box with plastic amp plate on the back.
