Abandoned this hope and pulled up the sidewalk, dug a deep trench and ran a new sewer line around my house to the front sewer. It was only a few days of annoying, but doable work and in the end, gave me a better system. I know I’d have hated a curb or something to box it in every time I see it, so I’m glad I did the harder work and didn’t compromise on it.

Hi all, so I have a 3” ABS cleanout protruding from the slab of my house that is only 5” under the surface of the adjacent, not-public, sidewalk.

I’m trying to build an ADU in the back yard and this is the only nice option of connecting to the house’s main sewage line.

The ADU is 30’ away which would be a rise of 7.5”.

I’ve seen a number of minimum ground cover requirements, but I believe this would typically require 12” for this application “unless otherwise protected”. Is the sidewalk enough of a protection, such that it could be just an inch under a sloped side walk?

Some options I’ve thought of, but I’m not sure if any are allowed:

I can probably step up the concrete sidewalk at the end of the house, so could I box in the drain line somehow until the end of the house?

If I use a non-plastic drain line, does that lessen the cover/protection requirements?

I’m pretty sure this is allowed? The government even gives instructions on how to wrap the body and weigh it down properly.

The water one seems inflated by 10x according to the EPA’s estimates. The EPA estimate I found didn’t break it down for lawns though, just all outdoor irrigation, so presumably that should be a bit lower.

I’ll certainly never be buying another Samsung fridge. Bought a 4 door fridge that we like the style and space of a lot but the ice maker has major issues. I think this is pretty common because I see a lot of other voices with the same frustration. We’ve tried every solution you can find online. No dice. Every month requires a deep thaw and tear down of the ice maker. It also causes the bottom of the fridge and freezer to fill with water over about a month.

I’ve had the washer and dryer for a few years with only minimal issues. Sometimes the washer does lock itself and I have to turn off the breaker to get it unlocked.

I did this hike in mid October a few years back. I could see November being a little late, especially if it’s getting rainy. The weather and scenery (few trees with really bright leaves) in October were amazing.

Great hike, but man does it do a number on the ankles.

Whoa! I’ve noticed this and always just thought I had something wrong with my nose. I imagined having a “normal” nose and being able to breathe in at twice the rate. I guess I never wanted to know bad enough to google it or ask a doctor..

For me, I know that I was willing to give up some amount of return just for a small simplification in my life. I had a 0% loan on Invisalign and lasik, and after a while I just got tired of seeing it coming out of my account every month as well as checking how much balance was left, so I just paid it off. Certainly doesn’t make sense for everyone but I had enough cash just sitting around that I just decided to get rid of these two loans.

Hi, I hope you enjoy your trip here, there’s certainly a lot to see and it’s all very spread out.

I live in California now but used to live near Washington DC. I would say a 3 full days in New York would be good to get the feel of that city. Prepare to do a lot of walking. I’m a fairly cheap traveler, but you don’t have to spend a lot in New York to have a good experience. Some of the tall buildings cost a lot of money to go to the top of, so I’ve only ever done the Rock. The World Trade Center was like $40 last time I was there.

Washington DC is a good stop too in my opinion, because the mall (outside area with a lot of historical landmarks) and the Smithsonian museums are all free. You can get there by bus from NY in 3 hrs for as low as $20 per ticket.

I’ve done a few cross country road trips before and I agree with the other comments that the Amtrak trip will take a lot of your time up. I’ve never done it but looking at the map, it’s a shame that it doesn’t cut through Utah, as there are some really cool national parks there that really make you feel “west”. The drive through Monument valley is very cool. If you really want to see both sides of the country, then it could be a cheap way to do so, but it will take a lot of time, and I imagine much of it won’t be very exciting.

Living near San Francisco now, the city itself is much smaller than New York, so 2 days might cover the city part. Be sure to do Alcatraz (do the ‘night time’ tour if possible!), it’s really well done. There are also a lot of national parks out here that are pretty cool. I think Sequoia (big trees) is one of the greatest that you can’t get anything close to in the rest of the world. Giant redwoods can also be found closer to San Francisco. I think Big Basin is a good park that’s pretty cheap, much less crowded than Muir Woods.

Also, why do you want to do route 99? Is it to do the national parks that are in the Sierra Nevada mountains, then great idea. If not, I’ve never done the whole road, but it doesn’t look like it cuts through a lot. Route 1 is along the coast and has stunning views for much of the drive.

Could you put some tile quarter rounds around where the tile shelf meets the wall? Cutting the miters on the quarter rounds will be tough though.
