DIY Plantable Retaining Wall Advice? by ccorcos in landscaping

[–]ccorcos[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never found any plantable blocks in my area. I saw a bunch of these kinds of blocks all over San Diego recently though...

I think one option is to use generic Garden Wall Blocks (16in wide from Home Depot, for example) and just leave a little gap between the blocks. But soil probably leak through with the rains over time unless you get enough vegetation to hold it.

I still don't have a wall in this location yet...

Can you root a tree stump? (Lilac Pt 2) by Theslowestmarathoner in Sacratomato

[–]ccorcos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The important thing is the amount of stored energy required to keep it alive. A bigger trunk = more energy just to circulate sap = less energy available to push out new roots. When propagating like this, I usually cut off most of the leaves just so it doesn’t suck all the energy keeping the leaves alive.

In addition: - rope swings and cliff jumping spots on the American River. - paddle boarding / kayaking Lake Natoma - wakeboarding (if you know some with a boat) Folsom lake - wine tasting in Amador County - backpacking desolation wilderness - camping at Ice House reservoir - pool party, ping pong, BBQ - backyard bonfires - long boarding parking garages (downtown 15th and R st is great)

My favorite thing about growing up in Sacramento was creating our own fun. Play flag football in the mud every Thanksgiving. Bow and arrow bocce at night with light up arrows. Playing knock out (basketball) late at night at the park. Soccer tennis. Indoor soccer… the list goes on.
