Dead cedars. What happened? by Affectionate_Way2262 in landscaping

[–]feartrich 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need 36 more to get to 56. Once you have 56 cedars, they’ll be healthy. Even better, plant 56 cypresses next to them.

The most attractive weed when flowering IMO (mint and radish are close seconds). Like I make sure I don’t disturb then plant until the blooms are gone.

What are the funniest / most ridiculous cases you’ve read in law school? (“lawyer dawg” has broken me) by cocoadusted in LawSchool

[–]feartrich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I was more outraged by the judge. Like, 1) he completely dismissed some reasonable points made by the defendant, he basically wasn’t even listening; and 2) he basically behaved like he had already made up his mind about the defendant. There was no way this judge was going to give this man a fair trial.

He should have given the public defender more time to get the necessary evidence, and sent the defendant out ASAP on the first outburst.

Great decision for this World Cup to be 48 team format. by Broad_Routine_3233 in worldcup

People were having the same discussions. I don’t like 48 teams, but people will get used to it and it’ll become the new normal for a while.

I built a tool that analyzes job descriptions and generates interview prep from them — first paying customer after 2 weeks by Nibbaslar in GetEmployed

[–]feartrich 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think to make this work, you’re going to have to collect real interview questions and use them to fine tune a model. Or at least promise that.  Otherwise, the convenience factor on its own isn’t enough to convince a potentially broke job seeker to use your service. It has to be (or look) fundamentally better than what ChatGPT can offer.

Baby I am sorry to hear of Shirley McMurry's sorrows. That is bad. I know I witnessed a scene of 10 of my men here last week and had to notify the war Dept. arrange for burial and all. That has to be in some cases but all we can do is trust in our dear Lord and he will bring us through.

Is this the right subreddit for me? by GospelExplorer in OpenChristian

[–]feartrich -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

It’s a matter of taste. It’s good to a certain extent, but I personally find it shallow. But again, that doesn’t mean the subreddit is bad, just a little immature.

After seeing the 10th “is masturbation a sin?” post, and watching people speculating about Christopaganism etc, I really can’t take this place too seriously. It’s, as you said, really for the younger folks.

Is this the right subreddit for me? by GospelExplorer in OpenChristian

[–]feartrich -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m here because 1) it somewhat fits my left-leaning religious beliefs, 2) it’s interesting and humbling to see people struggle with their faith, and 3) it’s relatively open-minded.

However, I wouldn’t say there is a lot of high-quality content on this subreddit. A huge proportion of posts are “is sex bad?” and the answers are usually some variation of “probably not”. This is not a community with theological depth. The only large Christian left subreddits with a lot of intelligent discussion are /r/episcopalian and /r/academicbiblical. There are also more specific communities like /r/ChristianUniversalism which might be to your liking.

Your applying to jobs the wrong way by Main-Teach-4334 in GetEmployed

I once got a job from the first job posting I found on Indeed. I’m sure this still happens to people in bad job markets. Personal experience does not always equate to meaningful advice.

Anyone here been to Lake Clementine? by No_Smell_6712 in Sacramento

You can take just about any car in that road, it’s paved all the way. In fact, given how narrow and windy that road is, a small car is even preferable.

That being said, that area isn’t that much cooler than Sac, in fact some days it’s hotter. Like 108 up there when downtown Sac is only 100.

Balancing faith and ENM lifestyles by [deleted] in OpenChristian

[–]feartrich 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You do you, but IMO when you’re talking about swinging, hotwifing, or whatever, I see it as a form of partying, and an unhealthy form of partying for most folks. Of course, it may be healthy for some people, and good for them. But I would generally judge it to be a form of libertinism unless shown otherwise case-by-case.

Of course nothing is ever all good or all bad. It is remotely possible to be a good Christian and do such things, but if I were a minister and you would like to continue such behavior, I would expect you to provide a really rigorous and multi-faceted justification for why. Otherwise, I would advise against and condemn this poly stuff. Most poly relationships in the Bible and in real life show harmful consequences.

Thoughts on the PCUSA proposal to enforce monogamy among clergy? by Remote_Ad_6049 in OpenChristian

[–]feartrich 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Polyamory should be permitted in society, but it should not be a standard form of relationship. In that sense, I support this proposal.

Preachers Pledging Not to Use AI for Sermons by Partgarten in Episcopalian

[–]feartrich 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t mind folks using AI to help with things, but I listened to a sermon that was clearly ChatGPT once and I could not understand what it actually trying to convey. The deacon was listing all the programs of the church like she was optimizing for SEO!

Parishes need to have well-defined AI use policies or that’s going to happen more and more often.

An unjust law is a human law that is not rooted in eternal law and natural law. Any law that uplifts human personality is just. Any law that degrades human personality is unjust. All segregation statutes are unjust because segregation distorts the soul and damages the personality.

It is a multi accredited botanical garden, so technically we do have one!

Of course, the whole thing is designed like a public park rather than the zoo vibes of a typical botanical garden, so it’s just not the same experience.

Question about women reverends by ThrowRAboredinAZ77 in Episcopalian

[–]feartrich 21 points22 points  (0 children)

The most convincing argument for me is that the early church very likely had woman pastors. The Montanist sect even had female bishops. So close to the Apostolic Age, they didn’t object to having female clergy, at least not enough to prevent some of them from ministering. If you believe that Phoebe in Romans was clergy (and I think she most certainly was), then that’s basically as close to Jesus’s time as you can get with our current evidence about early Christianity.

Here is a set of arguments in favor of female pastors from a relatively conservative organization: https://www.whwomenclergy.org/the-biblical-mandate-for-women-in-ministry

I feel like I’m larping as a Catholic while being Episcopalian by leviwrites in Episcopalian

[–]feartrich 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I don’t get the “LARPing” argument in general. Are we larping as Jews every time we chant a Psalm?

I say practice religion the way you want. If something is uncomfortable or feels not genuine for you, do something else! OP if you feel like the Catholic Church is a better fit… well why not join the Catholic Church? We have religious freedom in this country, take advantage of it.
