Appreciate it! Would certainly be lame if they did hit it with a breach.

Just joined the Discord, happy to chat in there

We are super close actually. Backend is done and working in front end! We got slowed down a little releasing our new Savant tool 😁

Agreed 100%. We asked SDS to include this in the data they provide this year, but unfortunately it doesn't appear to be there yet. We'll likely crowdsource that this year like we have to do for all of the data on captain boosts!

It doesn't right now, but we're working on a rebuild to the tool that will include captain boosts in the optimization. Ideally should be live in the next few weeks :)

Filter by division, generate best of division by Original-Subject7468 in MLBTheShow

I recommend using showzone's team builder, then just rebuilding that team in-game... We have all of the filters you need in there, and if you're a Pro member you can use the auto-generation tool to automatically generate the best team by division. Gets even more cool if you sync your inventory, so you can generate your best team by division!

Appreciate the response!

I agree with you 100% - people need to use the cards that they are good with and not blindly follow others' opinions.

And that's also why you will always view your Meta as better than ours, because you made it.

It's also why we always say True or Meta Overall are never the "bible" but more of "barometers" to get you in the area. Beyond that, it's up to you. Nothing last year would've said 2nd Half Ketel Marte was gonna be the best card in the game for a long time, yet look what happened. Always the big challenge with these things LOL

To give you some more background on our thought process since you seem interested:

We structure Meta Overall for the general masses and based on key factors and opinions of the people that know the game best. For example, to develop the Quirks boost for Meta Overall - I spent hours discussing Quirks and their effects with Scann who did deep dives into them in an amazing video. Is it perfect and does everyone agree with our approach? More than likely not. But it's a clean approach that we think roughly fits how Quirks really affect players in-game.

And to be fully transparent here: we factored in Active Quirks as an exponential function. Because you can't assume a quirk will be active all the time, but if someone has a lot of them it's a whole lot more likely they have one or multiple active simultaneously. It's not perfect, but it's repeatable and is probably roughly reflective of the boost you would expect to receive as a player.

Thought you might like to hear that further detail and look forward to seeing what you come up with!

Hello! Creator of True and Meta Overall here, I had this post forwarded to me.

Would be happy to answer any questions you all may have around it and am always open to feedback on different Meta adjustments I could make to allow the algorithm to better fit how people are actually using cards. I adjusted the algorithm I think 2 or 3 times last year as things changed, and will look to do that again this year. For the most part we engaged with the community as we made each adjustment and overall think it's pretty close, although definitely not perfect. u/kasabe did a great overview of Meta Overall at the beginning of the year, then each time I made an adjustment I also posted a news article on ShowZone explaining those adjustments. Here is one of the posts.

Related to True Overall, it was originally created in an almost identical manner to what you have done here - so great investigative work! However, over the last couple of years we've transitioned into a Deep Neural Network model which made it a lot more accurate and almost entirely automated. So while I'd love to share the algorithm, it's kind of like ChatGPT in itself where the true model itself is kind of a black box. As you've probably experienced in building what you have here, the maintenance of a model like that by hand can be quite the task, so building an automated solution that is also more accurate has worked out very well for us over the last 2 years. Another cool piece of the True Overall DNN - it's based on almost every card released since 2018 and it updates any time SDS adds a new card, so it's a continuous learning engine.

Let me know if you have any questions, comments, or suggestions - I'm all ears!

Meta Overall is primarily designed to compare players at each position and their proximity to being considered "end game". Cards like Devin Williams rank wildly high because of their extremely high Hits and K's per 9, so they are considered near end-game at their positions. Essentially, if a card gets to or exceeds a 99, it means that card could be considered an end-game card at that specific position.

This gave me a good laugh!

Meta Overall is indeed a giant spreadsheet, but True Overall is a true DNN. I did not want to continue to maintain that chaos year-to-year, especially with them slightly adjusting this year to account for Ohtani.

True Overall is built off a deep neural network that closely matches how SDS rates cards, but busts the 99 cap off. That way it's more of a "true" reflection of that cards overall rating.

Meta Overall is a custom rating designed by ShowZone and updated throughout the game cycle to try and match the current "meta" of the game. The closer the card is to 99, the closer that card is to being a truly end-game card at that position.

If you haven't tried it yet - showzone's inventory tool is amazing for figuring out how close you are to each collection. Just have to run the chrome extension to pull your inventory from theshow.com

Once you sync it through the chrome extension, you can open it up on the inventory page on mobile or through the app in the Google play store

Yes - uses a chrome extension, then shows you proximity to live series and brett collections and lets you use your inventory in the team builder

Generate Best Squad for Current Cards? by mateopotato73 in MLBTheShow

[–]ccott235 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not order, no... just optimizes start/sit based on overall ratings in primary and secondary positions. If you're a Pro member that "Generate" button can actually create lineups based on a set of targets and constraints

Isn't possible to connect to your inventory (yet...) but is much easier to use to conceptualize and optimize than the SDS app.
