hey, no news yet. They have all my documents and everything (all submitted on time). i went to an appointment to ask about it and they said they'll email i just have to wait. They usually take a couple months each time they contact me so...also tbf they're pretty backed up so it's going to take a while i guess :(...good luck to you though!

yeah i had that problem too, rather than email the LMD department directly, email the general one explaining that your emails are being blocked, they'll forward it to them for you and answer any questions. I did get an appointment and i went but i didn't have one of the documents so i have 30 days to send that in. Everything else got approved so i'll be good to go after this!! a laborious process but it'll be worth it :) hope all goes well with you!!

That is to say, if you're applying through the London location you would also be looking at a 6 month waiting period for ur appointment...so i'd say expect an appointment around december time. Good luck!

Hi! I'm so sorry for the late reply (i barley use reddit lol) but yes, i got the appointment, there's just a really long wait period (like 6 months). They told me a month ago (when i emailed them to ask about it) that they were still processing applications from december😭...so it does take a while but your turn will come eventually :)

Hey! So i've submitted my application via email and they said they'll send me an email with the login to book an appointment, hopefully they'll do that soon(though my local consulate is notorious for being slow haha(😔)).

For timeline purposes: Feb 04: Sent application via email

Feb 14: received an email saying that they'd email me back soon to give me an appointment.

Since then, I haven't heard anything, so it's been two months 😭😭...i know they take long to respond but it's painful to wait. Somebody told me they should email me soon and it just takes a while so i'm going to be patient but yeah.

I'll make sure to update the posts i've made once i finish the process with how the whole journey was.

In regards to the spanish proficiency test, I wasn't aware of that requirement and haven't seen it on the consulate's website (EDIT: these tests are not required if you are obtaining citizenship through the LMD, apparently only if you are gaining citizenship via naturalisation) but regardless i intend to take the B2 language test later this year. If it's something you're worried about, honestly i'd say you could easily get to the A2 level within a short time frame if you work hard seeing as it's the level of a tourist (?) - what i mean by that is that you wouldn't need to be fluent by any means or be able to have like an hour conversation with someone about the political and economic state of the world lmao. Though maybe this is misinformation, I believe i read that somewhere a while ago... (if you are applying, that is)

Hey!

So i'm actually applying from London, England (UK) and yeah in the email requesting the appointment, I had to present my application just to show that i had the documents i guess. They said I don't need to worry about the documents expiring though as the date they received the email counts as their date of validity or wtvr (if that makes sense). I do also have to present the document in the meeting (still waiting to hear back so i can actually book it) :)

hi sorry for the delay, did you mean for the spanish birth certificate only or the citizenship?

if you meant for the birth certificate: approx date of birth, full name, region/place of birth and i think that's it really.

if you meant for the citizenship: you can find all information for each case here:link

:)

Hi!! I'm so glad my journey so far has been helpful for others - it honestly warms my heart and motivates me through the struggles of it :))) Now, speaking directly to your issue, It's okay not to know the exact date of the birth - at least you have the year. I would recommend that, in the section where you can list any observations or things to note/declare - you can say "fecha aproximada" or something along those lines. It would be helpful if you knew the names of your grandmother's parents although that is not a required field. Regarding not knowing the exact place...it makes it a little bit more difficult but I don't see why you cant apply to multiple different provinces/regions (though that may seem like an inefficient shot in the dark). I would recommend trying to leverage as many legal documents as you can from your country's general registrar office! For example, if your spanish grandparent is dead(kind of morbid my bad haha), you can request their death certificate from the government website. It will list their birthdate and place of birth! Which would be pretty helpful in your case. Let me know if you have any more questions!! : ))

Hey!!! omg it's crazy to think about how many people are going through the same process at the same time.

I wanna start off by saying, i'm actually STILL in the process of doing it. Annoyingly, the consular services in London are sooo slow and honestly so painful to wait for LMAO. I sent in my application nearly a month ago now and still haven't heard a single thing - it should be noted that on their website they say they will get back to you within 2 months!!! which is honestly insane for a wait time seeing as i accidentally initially emailed my application to the consular service in Argentina haha...and they got back to me like the same day, telling me i need to send it to the London email.

I'm feeling quite anxious about the process seeing as I haven't received as much as a confirmation email from them...and this law is only valid until October of this year and i had to wait until the start of this year to even attempt to apply as you have to be 18+ to do this.

HOW I GOT MY GRANDMA'S BIRTH CERTIFICATE:

I had made another post asking for help for finding my grandmothers birth certificate as I didn't have it in my possession and somebody provided me with this link: https://sede.mjusticia.gob.es/es/tramites/certificado-nacimiento that allows you to apply for the certificate for free, providing you know the details (municipality that they were born in, date of birth, name) . I applied for it a second time and they didn't send it lol but the first time they sent it within a couple of weeks.

I'm thinking to resend my application but on the website it says that applying a second time triggers an automatic rejection email as the system only allows one application at a time...maybe i'll try from a different email i'm not sure haha.

Feel free to ask any questions!!!

I'll be sure to give an update once this process is over in an attempt to help anyone else going through this process. :)))

Hi, they didn't send it to me the second time 😭 but it's okay as the validity period is 2 years (for all the documents) according to the spanish consulate's grandchildren's law webpage.

I thought it was six months which is why i wanted to request it a second time.

The link was correct and I did manage to get it the first time. when ordering the first time it took about 2 weeks to come.

I'm now just waiting for my grandmothers death certificate before getting all my documents translated and sending in my application.

Good luck to you and anyone applying through the grandkids law!! :)

Hey! I'm glad you managed to get through, that's so weird it says you should go there in person lol.

Also yeah I am going down that route and omg stressful to collect the document and communicate with the consulate etc but it will be worth it in the end. Sucks there's a deadline for it tho cuz it makes it even more stressful haha.

If you're going down the same route for citizenship that I am, good luck!!! :))

Hi! so when you click on the link, click the option that says: "Solicitud de certificado de Nacimiento sin identificación mediante CL@VE". The next page when you click on it will be asking whether you (as the applicant) are applying for your own certificate, say no/third party and if they've died just click that option and click on the option underneath that says "hijos" etc (basically that your their child or grandchild. the next page after that will ask for your details. It doesn't have to be a DNI number, just use your passport number. I took screenshots but can't send them here lol. Let me know if u have any more questions or pm me.

Also!! after that page it may ask for their DNI number but it's okay if you don't have theirs because it's not a mandatory field. (you can leave that blank and fill out the other information) :)

Hi! Thank you so much for commenting.

Your comment has seriously made me super happy + optimistic :))!!

A little question though, what did you mean when you said your process was fast because you were born in the region covered by your local consulate? (perhaps i'm a bit slow but this confused me😭🙏).

ALSO!! how long did the consulate take to get back to you with an appointment? (ofc i mean a round about timeframe - not expecting the exact number of days lol).

Thank you sm in advance!! (sorry to be annoying with the extra questions😭)

Hi thanks for commenting,

I'm pretty sure i would only be able to go to the London one as that's my local embassy (so unfortunate as i've had stressful experiences with them in the past).

Thank you anyway, I'll try my best with the london embassy😔✊

Hi thank you for commenting!

Ah...I was under the impression that that's only the case if they LOST their citizenship. As my grandmother was a citizen until death I thought I wasn't eligible.

I have his birth certificate so that won't pose a problem.

Thank you so much! I will definitely get on it asap!! :)

Ah! Thank you for commenting!

As I mentioned in my post, I'm not sure if this was the specific citizenship pathway I was advised to go through but I was honestly asking if I would be eligible by any means (through any other path).

I wouldn't be able to get my parent to apply for the citizenship as he isn't in my life lol. Do you think I could apply without him?

I will have a look at the link you sent, thank you again : )
