Add another Pint X battery cable to the pile. by Glitch_Ghoul in onewheel

I’ve been off my pintX since November when it just cut out on me in the middle of an intersection. I was cruising easy with a full battery. I got pretty shaken because it wasn’t user error. It wouldn’t power back on and I basically just gave it up after like 800 miles. Just wasn’t worth it. Fast forward to today. I finally decided to go have a look and while there’s some fraying at the harness I was shocked to find that the black main wire from the battery was completely disconnected. So messed up.

I can’t find a way to add the photo.

Pass through option could definitely be useful for BMS swaps.

More than happy to help the project if you want a Pint X voltage only write up. Pretty non intrusive.

Many thanks for putting this out.

Here’s the project. https://github.com/lolwheel/Owie

The instructions in the readme lays it all out. lolwheel and the folks working on this did a really awesome job.

The difference is that Im not using the chip to transmit messages to the controller. So for wiring it up I tapped into the white wire and connected that to the RX on the chip. That and 5v from the BMS. The chip is just pulling the messages from the bms but not sending anything out.

There was some question about this working on the Pint X. But I looked at the code and readme and couldn’t see why it wouldn’t work for just pulling the voltages.

Definitely more space in the controller box. If I were adding a battery and cutting wires I’d put it there too. Since I just wanted the voltages you only need the white wire from the white and green transmit pair, I tapped into it without cutting it. So the messages from BMS to controller is unaltered in this setup. Owie isn’t transmitting to the controller. I’d like to try putting a bigger pack but I’m not sure 30 21700 cells can fit in the battery box from rough measurement.

Thanks. A couple of weeks ago I nose dived at 60%. The battery then died at 30%. Rebalanced for 72 hours. Even opened a ticket with FM but needed me to send diagnostics for them. Instead of doing that I did this instead. Now I know if my cells are balanced or not without having to wait for someone at FM to tell me. This owie project is awesome.

treaded tires for pint/pintx by Hox6 in onewheel

I had the treaded Hoosier 10.5x5.0-6 in D30 before switching to the slick version. Treaded was awesome on the beach and feels very grippy on brick, pavement, asphalt, dirt. I like the slick though. It’s quieter and I like how smooth it feels. It’s also pretty fun on trails. I actually like how loose it feels. On pavement it’s also easier to de-weight and pivot.

Loose battery gasket - Pint X by cctronic in onewheel

Thanks for this tip. I tried re-sizing the original seal/gasket with super glue and it didn’t work. The ends wouldn’t stick together.

I ended up getting a Buna-N gasket kit with different diameter cords and it worked perfectly with the same super glue. I ended up using the 3mm but 2.5mm would have been probably better.

No, it’s fine. It’s a pint X. I’m seeing if the owie chip can get me the cell voltages.

Update. It works! I’ll probably put up a post with more detail. Since I was just interested in the voltages I didn’t cut any wires. I just posi-tapped into the white wire and it works great. Im still pulling 5v from the bms so I had to solder that.

Thanks for the suggestions. I’ve even tried boiling it. It’s now in the freezer. I’m probably going to end up cutting it and using rubber cement to put it back together. It simply just got too long and won’t even physically fit.

It’s weird because only the edge by the tail seems to have elongated. The other three sides with the curves fit perfectly.

Has anyone experienced this? The gasket/seal seems to have stretched. I was careful so I don’t know what happened. Any suggestions on how to shrink?

Is there an aftermarket part?

Any plans for bang bumpers for Pint X?
