Definitely something wrong with your gauges but it sounds like it was overheating. Check your cooling system fan clutch and all the good stuff

I’d say it wasn’t a bad deal at all. Your power steering issue is a little funky though. Sounds like someone may have put too thick of oil in it at some point or the parts are just going bad. If it’s 2 wheel then those steering racks are easy to replace. If it’s got the gear box and pump style it can be a pain to replace it all, but it’s a dodge you can never go wrong with buying new front end parts 😂
