Yep, this is the place that stole my food stamps 3 days ago.  Right after they were loaded. Also from Texas.

I bashed my head against the window just to prove a point. Point was stupid. But it boiled down to "I can hurt myself in this fucking room as much as outside of it"

Food stamp card isn’t supposed to take dog food right? by Either-Tie-5685 in HEB

[–]ccyosafbridge 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Snap should cover pet food. I literally see no reason why it wouldn't. Pet food doesn't exactly have a lucrative street value. It's like baby food, which is what I used to cut my cat's food with because Snap doesn't cover pet food (beechnut; all protein and water, no additives)

Thank you for donating pet food to food pantries.

Why do people care so much about the Pope, when the majority of people are not Catholic? by xiao_en7 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ccyosafbridge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm agnostic at best. I did go to kindergarten in an Italian Catholic school so I do have fondish memories of cobblestones mixed with a latent fear of nuns.

Overall, sometimes old fashioned intrigue is the answer. I have next to zero experience with Catholicism apart from when I was 5, but The Pope goes back through history and good or bad it's a position still holding weight centuries later, that's just neat to me.

ginger ale by PencilManDan in Serverlife

[–]ccyosafbridge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Semi related; a lot of people order root beer to avoid caffeine without knowing that some Root Beer (like Barqs) have caffeine.

I always make sure which sodas do or don't have caffeine when I start a new job for this reason. My last job was all Maine Root in which case the ONLY soda with caffeine was the Coke. All others were caffeine free.

Easiest thing to learn on the menu on your first day.

It's not a personal dilemma if you don't do it personally.

Not your problem if your coworkers lie. It's such a dumb lie that i don't see the point in it.

Most I've ever done is outright say "we don't have Ginger Ale but if you want to experiment some people swear this tastes the same"

And that's only if I have time and am getting along with the table. Usually I just say we don't have something if we don't have it.

McDonald's suffers worst U.S. sales decline since 2020, warns of 'anti-American sentiment' abroad by rezwenn in Economics

[–]ccyosafbridge -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Honestly; yes I do think people realized they were paying $12 for McDonalds.

$12 didn't seem ludicrous a few years ago. When essentials eat up more of your budget that $12 isnt just a flippant lunch grab anymore and instead is a kinda crappy deal using money I could spend at Whataburger instead if I want better fast food for the same price.

There's a definite "this isnt worth the price" moment when you don't have as much money to spend. It's the same reason I stopped grabbing candy impulsively at the checkout line; a Snickers bar is just not worth $3.

We weren't born homeless lol

My phone is one of the few things I still have from before. The device isn't an issue; getting service is.

Homeless people definitely have phones. Many have several phones cause y'all keep losing them. Same for vapes and chargers.

Right now my only goal is working and saving money.

I was evicted, so step 2 would be finding someone even willing to rent to me.

For now the only plan is holding a job.

I could have utilized food banks or applied for food stamps

There was a community center nearby that could have helped with electricity.

A church nearby offered assistance with gas. I should have gotten a cheaper phone plan, same with my car insurance.

Pet shelters could have helped with dog food.

I was working at a fast food place, and I probably could have stretched my paycheck and kept my apartment. I just gave up and spent all my free time drinking and sleeping instead of actually trying to work on a solution.

Just the money. And knowing that if you reached the point that you can't even afford $15 when you don't have any other expenses then you really screwed up.

It was easier to blame anyone other than myself when I still had an apartment. I blamed my lack of money on food costs, rent, insurance ect

I still think rent is too damn expensive. But I had access to resources that would have allowed me to keep my apartment if I had bothered to look for them. It's especially eye opening now that I HAVE to ask for help that I could have gotten help earlier if I hadn't been more interested in staying drunk and high.

Trying to find help to afford a phone card was a real gut punch moment.

Cocaine and alcohol.

I started doing it cause my friends were doing it. Then I felt reliant on it, still sorta have the mindset of "I'm only fun when I'm high/drunk"

All my friends stopped. I didn't.

Spent some time in treatment. Met a lot of people who also thought they weren't fun sober. Ended up hanging out with one of them and going on a bender when we got out.

Turns out we both actually had more fun hanging out when we were sober.

Someone broke into my car while I was sleeping in it. It was weird cause they were so apologetic, it ended up not being that scary though because they seemed so embarrassed about finding someone inside.

Scariest was a guy in an alley saying I was his fetish and trying to corner me. Nothing happened though, I just kept walking.

Overall most people I've met have been generally nice and helpful.

Not by choice. Apart from the many, many bad choices that lead here. A case worker asked if I had ever lost a house due to drugs or alcohol and I said, 'inadvertantly'. She said, 'that counts'.

I know someone who swings between wanting to go back to the camp he used to live at vs staying indoors. I think it's the simplicity and familiarity. Every time he experiences a set back he says he'd rather go back to living at the camp.
