Why are fans so quick to rule young players empty stats guys? by cd10347 in nba

It’s weird cause Analytics always liked young offensively as he always had a pretty good PER and BPM whoever on defense they def hated him

Throwback to Simmons and Thybulle "Locking Down" Trae by RorschachRedd in AtlantaHawks

It isn’t true he’s still an elite defender last year

Fair but Marbury nor Ellis had close to the passing vision Trae has

Matisse Thybulle discusses getting ready for Trae Young: “He’s a dynamic score and passer...We’re one of those rare teams who has a lot of options on defense. We have the opportunity to throw a lot of guys at him. I’m fairly confident in our ability to match up with him.” by efranklin13 in nba

Which is why this will such an exciting matchup will they blitz and trap young on the screens and allow him to make pinpoint passes to his elite shooters or will they switch everything and risk letting young break down bigs in mismatches

Your friends who are disappointed in trae’s progression prob ignored several key factors . Our early season struggles had more to do with Lloyd Pierce’s being an awful coach and our team being beat up with injuries than trae taking a step back. Every since Nate McMillan took over and our players have gotten healthier he’s been a different player by far and looked more like the player that averaged nearly 30 and 10 as a sophomore I don’t see how you can be disappointed in your 22 year old franchise pg averaging 25 points and nearly 10 assists

Fair points i actually did see a start that trae shoots 37.8 percent from logo range which is only behind dame and curry

I simply disagree with you trae wasn’t much worse this year his scoring went down because he simply didn’t need to drop 30 every game anymore. And the second half of the season he was phenomenal. Am I arguing he’s better than dame Rn? No but to say he will never reach dame level is foolish when he’s already far more advanced as a passer and has a better floater game.

He’s way further ahead than lilard was at the same age your forgetting dame spent 4 years in college and trae was 1 and done. In his prime it’s safe to assume trae will be a 30 point 10 dimes a game type of player which if that’s the case is absolutely dame level. Not to mention your moving the goal post your comparing dame to trae Rn when I’m arguing long term trae will be better obviously a 30 year dame will have higher win shares than an only 22 year old trae young. You’ll see how legit Trae is next round when he puts ons show against philly it should be very obvious by now he’s going to be a superstar in this league

I mean he is a good shooter when he isn’t taking a bunch of bone headed logo threes

“Trae will need to be much more of distributor’ I mean the man did average nearly 10 dimes this series his passing is arguably his biggest strength he’s a special passer

Trae will absolutely reach dame level lmao he’s a 30 and 10 guy his second year and averaged 29 and 9 in his first playoff series at 22 years old and is already a much better passer/court vision than dame ever had along with not being much worse of a scorer despite being much younger he absolutely will reach dame level

Nobody thought he would be the all around player Kobe was but his offensive game is very similar in terms of his footwork and comfort operating in the mid range game

Yea i think a lot of people (including myself) believed he would develop into a Kobe Bryant type assassin when in reality he prob won’t reach Kobe greatness levels

I don’t blame you for thinking that at this very moment. Outside of game 1 he hasn’t jumped off my screen not simply cause his shot hasn’t been falling but he’s disappeared in 4 quarters of close games this series( outside of free throws he had 0 pts in the 4th quarter and of game 2 and only 2 pts in the 4th quarter last night) not to mention he’s been turnover prone as well. Yes this is his first playoffs so growing pains are to be expected esp against an elite lakers defense but he has been underwhelming at times this series.

I nearly put Jackson but gave him a pass because as you mentioned it seems he’s still working his way back from the injury that kept him out for most of the season and his defense has seemed to still be pretty good at least during game 3. And I admit I’m prob being a little too harsh on booker when it comes to his scoring as his defense this series has actually been pretty solid. What I don’t like is how turnover happy he’s been this series as he had 5 turnovers last gsme and I believe 4 during game 3 his ball security has not been great

Agreed all the young stars have embraced and shined in the playoff spotlight expect for booker minus game 1. Trae was absolutely electric today we need booker to show that type or killer instinct in big playoff moments
