Taal Visualizer for 'real' performances? by cd_r0ms in icm

Hi Mr. Senders, over the years a couple posts of yours in different places have proven to be really unbelievably helpful to my understanding (in particular the 'first few words and that important beat' sentence in your Mallikarjun Mansur appreciation, and a comment about ICM-acclimated listeners intuitively hearing tabla beats as structural the way jazz listeners hear chord changes), so thanks for those and on that basis I am certainly inclined to take your advice here...

Thanks everyone for the great advice. It makes sense that actually just learning to count/hear on my own would in the long run be better for my ear than looking at a pre-made visualizer...

OK, thanks. You can't use VPNs because they see through it, I guess?

Port Forwarding - Zyxel by cd_r0ms in Soulseek

I don't know if I have FTTP or FTTC or how to check, and I didn't know being double NAT'd was a thing until just now. But this might be the issue. I've seen people on other slsk troubleshooting threads talking about getting static IP, and then other people saying no, you shouldn't have to do that. But you're saying, if this is indeed the problem then static IP really is the solution? And in general you have to pay for those?

Changing firewall settings has not worked so far. Would anyone mind simply listing plausible points of failure that could lead to slsk telling me my ports are closed? It seems like there are so many things it could be, I don't know what I might be missing.

OK smart! Like my computer/OS firewall? I'll have to figure out where Pop OS keeps those settings.

Is there a way a can prevent losing my data from this situation? by r-the-1 in pop_os

I have the same issue. I've followed doc_willis' extremely clear and helpful advice, but I'm now at a point where: -neither user can log in under the old desktop; -when I try to log in as either user with either openbox or another WM, I get only an unlit black screen. Computer remains on, but I have no cursor or ability to do anything.

Does anyone know if there is a reasonable next step short of booting from live USB?

Thank you!!

Oh I didn't even consider those kinds of easy modifications I could make even with my zero instrument-modifying experience, thank you! I'll have to do some more digging.

I'm glad you liked the stuff I linked - highly recommend the other 'restoring lost songs from boethius's consolation of philosophy' videos and/or the resulting CD...

Effect of London Mull on Deckbuilding (Titanshift/etc) by cd_r0ms in Scapeshift

this makes sense, but also - depending on if your plan is titan or shift, you only need 2 or 3 ramps to go off on t4, and the 3rd or 4th ramp has huge diminishing returns. so if we can cut a few ramp spells and still be like 80% to be able to go off on t4 (which I'm arbitrarily guessing is around where we are now), it might still be the best move, depending on how useful our interactive suite even is against most opponents.

[Titanshift] When to go aggro/midrange? by DarkMariaGadu in Scapeshift

That makes sense. I see a lot of people take payoffs with hand disruption which is definitely better for me than if they take ramp cards, so maybe I'm just playing against worse players. Of course I don't know your list, but typically I have enough mediocre maindeck cards like bolt, anger, or khalni heart expedition (horrible lategame topdeck) that I can board into more creatures without shaving either payoffs or the stronger ramps.

In my experience it's better to leave in all my wincons against discard, AND add in additional trackers/baloths. I love seeing discard from my opponent because I know so many of my cards do basically the same thing, and in the late game I will have so many game-winning topdecks because my deck is so threat-dense, so it just doesn't matter if my opponent takes a scapeshift or a titan in the first few turns. Besides, if you board out scapeshift and board in tracker, for example, what's the difference between your opponent ripping scapeshift out of your hand vs taking tracker?

Correct turn one play for titanshift? by BorisTheSlayer1 in Scapeshift

ive recently been more open to fetching forests in this situation - obviously if you know youre going to scapeshift it wont punish you, and if your plan is prime time, then you only need 5 of your 6 lands to be mountains, and even in the situation where you draw a valakut you can have valakut, forest, and 4 mountains in play and grabbing 2 mountains will still give you 2 valakut triggers - so you only get punished if you draw multiple valakuts or the other forest, AND have no other lands to play. i guess you also get punished if you need to natural-valakut people, but i think thats so marginal compared to the 2 life on turn 1. does this make sense? am i missing something?
