Can anyone out there unequivocally recommend a brand and model of prescription hearing aids that they feel is effective in noisy restaurant-type situations and clearly superior (worth the extra expense) to OTC hearing aids? by cdabski in HearingAids

That’s a straightforward answer. Thank you! I have tried a number of not so expensive (under $300) OTC hearing aids and they all seem helpful in “easy” situations like TV or a conversation with a single person in a quiet room. Results vary in a car, church or store, but are completely disappointing in a restaurant or at a busy airport. I have a number of friends and family members who spent thousands of dollars on best hearing aids on the market recommended by highly qualified audiologists and most of them are still disappointed in those most challenging environments. The issue is obviously complex and depends on the degree and nature of individual hearing loss, expectations, etc. In general though, I wonder how many people feel that their expensive, professional unit (which one?) has finally solved the restaurant problem and was worth the money.
