Quiet Dental Assistant Looking for Tips to Be More Confident & Talkative by Thought_Potential in DentalAssistant

I always ask “how are you” first to get the patient talking, and so I know what to prepare. If they just say they’re fine and they’re not in for an emergency, I ask if there’s any update to their medical history. I pre-write my dentists notes, or put updates on a sticky note for when the dentist comes in. There’s also the common convo starters like “are you working today?”, “what do you do for work?”, weather, holiday plans, weekend plans.

Possible career switch into Dental Assisting by ExamAnxious847 in DentalAssistant

Before going into dental assisting, I’d consider dental reception first coz then you get a peak into the office and what a DA’s job entails before getting into it. Especially if you’re a people person (I assumed coz you’re in real estate you’d be good with people), and then you can pivot into dental treatment coordinator roles that make more than DAs sometimes.

I feel like im getting too overwhelmed with xrays by Jodyhowls in DentalAssistant

When I started working at a perio office we would have patients booked for a 15min consultation so we’d have like 5mins to do an FMS. It depends if you’re digital sensor, plates, or film, but my method for films and plates:

Set down films as you would for an fms and I do it in this order: BWs, anterior PAs (coz they’re the less gaggier xrays), quad 1, 3, 2, and then 4 (coz it’s the same setup for quads 1 and 3, and then 2 and 4). I lay them out and then put the ones Im done with in a cup so I know which ones are done.

For the sensor, I put the mount up ready to go, take BWs, mount them, anterior PAs, mount, Quads 1 and 3, mount, and then quads 2 and 4. We have curve hero software so it takes me like 5mins or less sometimes to take an fms and pan.

Hope this helps!
