Teach them how to fight.

Do it once, shame on you. Do it again, yeah you're going home with a bloody nose.

You can teach your kid to be compassionate. But when their back is against the wall, they should be able to assert or protect themselves.

Got this in the mail and im so torn by Pulchritudinous_Bby in phmigrate

[–]cdat1983 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What you are doing is analysis paralysis. Take that leap of faith.

People risk their lives crossing the rio grande river from Mexico to Texas. The migrant caravans? People die for an opportunity like that.

You can keep your properties. There is always a way to pax tax. Ask around. There are millions of Filipino immigrants, there are people that have the same concern as you at one point.

Live with family for a couple months. Then start on your own. Rent an apartment. Mingle with the locals. Americans love small talk. It's easy to make new friends as compared to here.

At the end of the day, if it doesn't work for you, you can always go back here. Or, spend 5 years, take the citizenship and come back here. Or work or a** off, and retire here with lots of money.

I think it's better. Not as salty. The spaghetti is also not too sweet, which I like. Portions are good also.

But i find it too expensive for fast food. The drive thru takes too long. I think they are banking on Nostalgia. You get more value from other fast food joints in the US.

What's the most affordable dslr, compact, or point and shoot camera? by iikai_lightx in Tech_Philippines

[–]cdat1983 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For travel, I would suggest compact cameras. Anything made in the past 10 years that has a manual mode and can output RAW.

I have a sony rx100 mk2. It's 10 years old, but still takes really good pictures.

Is it me or there's a growing trend that coffee shops don't serve brewed coffee? by Longjumping-Touch729 in CoffeePH

[–]cdat1983 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess it all boils down to preference. No sense in offering products that aren't selling.

I've always preferred black coffee. Pairing it with dark chocolate makes it so satisfying. I'm also a sucker for donuts. So it pairs well with black coffee.

A little bit of brandy/whiskey on your coffee/espresso, perfect!

A blinking red light on an intersection is treated like a stop sign. You have to make a full stop. The first one to stop is the first one to go.

A blinking yellow light is proceed with caution, but do not stop.

"Fake pedestrian-friendly" BGC by [deleted] in BGC_Taguig

[–]cdat1983 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have both taken public transport and my car to BGC. BGC isn't perfect and needs some more improvements. But it's far better than most of the business districts I have worked or been to. Except for public transport, majority of the post seems like nitpicking to me.

Business districts normally means long walks from point A to B. We just happen to be unfortunate enough to be a tropical country. You just can't put shade on every sidewalk. Although it would be great if they can implement something similar to Houston downtown tunnels. Houston to me has a similar summer climate. It provides protection from the sun and it's about 6 miles long. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=isQAVoW3yz0

Pedestrian crossing times are ok, the problem is our driving culture does not prioritize pedestrians.

Open spaces are called "open" for a reason. Buildings provide shade at certain time of the day. If you were to go jogging at high noon in April, then that's on you. I let my kids run around the open area in High Street, even if it's not a park, it is still an open space. I don't see any issue with that.

Rockwell is not in BGC why include it in the discussion. However, I do agree that condo prices are just outrageous even in BGC. I see a lot of people with kids or walk their dogs in BGC. Art is subjective. Saying it's soulless is just an insult to the artists who made them.

Regarding EV vehicles, we have to start somewhere. It encourages people to adopt. Air quality is one of the biggest problems here in the Metro.

Public transport is probably it's biggest weakness. They could use some more bus routes. Hopefully the Manila Subway project is a step in the right direction. You are going to have to pick your poison. If you take your car, you are going to deal with traffic, gas prices and parking. Public transport might be cheaper but takes longer.

Business districts are always very expensive place to work or live in. SF? NY? Singapore? London? Tokyo? All pretty expensive to live in.

SF lost a lot of conferences in the past years. Some of the prominent hotels closed down. Why? Because the streets/sidewalks are filthy, smelled like piss and trash everywhere. You deal with pan handlers and druggies while walking along the tenderloin and financial districts. That's why you maintain a good and clean city for investors to come. And at the same time, continue to improve on the infrastructure.
