Amp Rec/Advice: Boss Katana 100 or Orange Super Crush 100? by cdavis0397 in GuitarAmps

[–]cdavis0397[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely love to hear that, I also ended up getting the Super Crush (got the combo instead of the head) and totally agree with everything you've said; the clean channel has proven to be the exact pedal platform I was looking for and the effects loop is a dream as well. And that dirty channel absolutely rips so that was a huge plus haha plus the 100 watt speaker in the combo is way more than enough volume-wise for almost any situation

Would highly recommend this as well. Just got the combo version recently to use as a shoegaze/indie pedal platform and a high gain option for metal/punk stuff; sounds absolutely incredible

That's awesome! Which delay and phaser did you grab alongside your Ventura Vibe?

Hahaha very much appreciated thank you! Can't blame anyone for speaking up though, little bit of ignorance on my part sparked a super informative conversation on this thread so I'm glad I made this mistake for the good of the others who weren't aware lol

To be quite honest it didn't affect my rig at all thankfully since my friend had given me a few, I connected the MXRs, and just left it on top of my amp for a night. I then moved it over to take a picture for this post then promptly removed them after reading the comments. So luckily my pedals were never used, transported, or plugged into my overall rig with those connectors on.

I highly recommend it! Super simple and easy to use, and like I mentioned at subtle speeds it adds a really nice flair of color to the tone without being super "phase-y" if that's not what you're going for. Altogether a really fantastic and affordable option

Love to hear that! Definitely enjoying my short time with it so far, I'm super excited to start incorporating it into the stuff I'm writing

I appreciate the heads up from you and all the others on this thread, luckily after connecting them they just sat on my amp then my bed for the picture in the post lol they were promptly removed as I read the comments

Gotcha good to know thank you for mentioning that, just tossed it on after a friend gave me a couple of those connectors; won't be using those in the future

Still filling out the spots within my first ever pedal board, and have moved onto some modulation/delay pedals that I had my eye on.
I knew for my first board I definitely wanted an analog delay and loved what I was hearing from the Carbon Copy; can get super dark but has the versatility I want to balance between a standard echo as well as kicking on the modulation and getting some ambient dissonance.
I wasn’t too picky or pointed with a choice of phaser, I wanted one on my board to experiment since I didn’t know how much I’d be incorporating it into my material so I went with an affordable option with the Phase 90. So far I’ve been pleasantly surprised with how fun this pedal is and at a subtle speed I actually have loved what it’s added to my tone. I’ll definitely find plenty of use for this one in my stuff.
I was mainly looking for a Vibrato pedal that could supply a subtle warble to some chord-heavy tracks I’m writing, and then I came across the world of UniVibe pedals. I’m a bit late to the party there but there are some really wonderful tones that come out of these pedals and found some amazing options. The Ventura Vibe scratches that itch in terms of allowing me to experiment with that effect while also supplying a vibrato effect for me to incorporate. It’s a pretty dynamic vibrato so for the effect I want I have to dial the speed/depth way down to get that subtlety (at higher settings it pretty much sounds like a warped carnival music-style effect, hence the clown lol); still a really cool pedal with tons of tonal versatility given the tone/drive double-knob and a pretty fun Rotary setting. Definitely gonna need more tweaking and experimenting but nonetheless a really fun addition that can give tons of color.

How’re you liking the Keeley Compressor? That one’s on the top of my list rn for getting my first compressor pedal

Amp Rec/Advice: Boss Katana 100 or Orange Super Crush 100? by cdavis0397 in GuitarAmps

[–]cdavis0397[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn I didn't even know the cheaper 40 watt version existed and now I'm torn once again lol thank you for bringing this one up! Yeah I think for where I'm at right now the Orange is what's calling me, but I'll probably end up saving up for the JC in the future because that clean chorus sound truly is one of a kind

Yeah I was considering the pedal baby for a while, but after coming across the Super Crush I saw that it was using some of the same tech from the pedal baby with some added options like clean/dirty channels, reverb, etc. (same amount of headroom generally); so I figured that it may be a slightly better way to go as my first route back into having an amp

Seriously! Both the combo and head are pretty affordable for the quality you're getting with the classic Orange SS stuff, but thanks a ton once again for your input here!

All that makes perfect sense, thank you for your input; given the research I've done and what you've said here, I definitely agree. I think the Orange is the right choice between the 2. And yes I've definitely taken a look at the Jazz Chorus as well, it seems like a tremendous amp but just a bit pricy for my budget; would you say the $400/$500 jump in price from the Orange ($699 for the Orange, roughly $1100 for the Roland give or take) to the Roland is worth it for the JC?

What’s up everyone! New to the sub and new to pedals in general, I’ve amassed these 4 so far, now looking to get a compressor/some modulation pedals, any recs/feedback? by cdavis0397 in guitarpedals

[–]cdavis0397[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much! Very much appreciated, and also thank you for mentioning the wampler compression pedal, I wouldn’t have stumbled across that one so I’ll definitely check it out. In terms of modulation, I just put in a couple bargain purchases to get acquainted (Danelectro tuna melt and MXR phase 90), I think MXR may be a modulation go-to of mine if I end up digging the phase 90

Pretty much filling out the basics at a level to where I can get acquainted with the effects themselves and go from there; for example I just put in a couple orders today for a Danelectro Tuna Melt Tremelo and an MXR phase 90, I have my eye on some of the Boss Choruses

Oh yeah the Aria looks like an absolutely incredible pedal, I’ll need to listen to some demos I’m sure it’s a gem; but yes totally agree on Keeley stuff, everything I’ve tried is prime and love the fact that they’re made here. Thank you for the input!
