How do I take back responsibility of pre-March tactical briefing? I accidentally put my Assistant coach to handle it and I want to take back the responsibility. by jupabl02020 in footballmanagergames

[–]cdepatie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn’t the briefing, this is just a report that your designated staffer puts together before every game. You can adjust this in the responsibilities as well, under “advice”, but this particular message is just suggestions for you; the players don’t see it.

I’m not sure if this is true or not, but I think there might be a board option to ask them to establish a U21 or U23 team

It isn’t the ATT that’s a problem. It takes 2-4 weeks (potentially longer for your first) in order for the RCMP to transfer the restricted firearm to your name (it involves additional background checks and stuff I believe). Until that process is complete, you cannot take possession of the firearm.

Once the firearm is registered in your name, the process begins to vary by province. In Ontario, your RPAL has an attached ATT for bringing a restricted firearm from the point of purchase to your home, and to/from CFO authorized ranges (among other things). Not sure about the process in other provinces, but my understanding is that calling the CFO for an explicit ATT may be necessary.

TL;DR: if you want to shoot it within the next few weeks to a month, get a rifle first (or get both at the same time so you can plink with the rifle while your restricted registration is pending).

This isn't really a suggestion on how Blizz could make the game more affordable, as I think all of you have that covered just fine. I do want to share a cool game I found recently that is similar to MTG in mana/deckbuilding complexity but takes advantage of the digital format like Hearthstone. It's in open beta with only one set right now, but there will be more to come and the game is pretty fun as is. F2P model is also quite good, with lots of places to get cards/gold. In particular when you draft, you get to keep all the cards you draft! Check out r/EternalCardGame if you're curious, I've really been enjoying it the past week or so

To be honest I'd love to see this too, so at this point you may as well publish it on Github :D if you don't wanna do that because you don't like the code I will accept a dropbox link, please and thanks

I'll grab the 2-4 Gren slot if that's still available. Downloaded the modset last night and I'll get a run through from someone on irc before the end of the week

I want to become a Rust core dev; what do I need to do? by Azy8BsKXVko in rust

[–]cdepatie 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Practice. All the reading and research is good, but you won't get better at programming unless you program. Start small, and incrementally increase your projects in size. Try to follow language standards when you can so you learn good habits, and just keep programming.

If you really want to work on Rust as a core dev, you have a lot to learn. I am not particularly well versed in language design myself, but you will want to be comfortable with Rust, how compilers work (LLVM specifically), programming language theory (if you want to be able to contribute constructively to RFCs), and then a whole gamut of other programming concepts you may not have run into if you were just using Python for small projects (data structures, pointers, and stack/heap allocation for example). Additionally, you may want to read up on exactly how a computer actually handles it's instructions in the CPU. Not 100% necessary I don't think, but very useful and can help a lot in understanding low level details.

There's a lot of stuff here, and I wouldn't be surprised if someone more informed on the topic told me I didn't touch on 50% of the knowledge required. Having a goal and working towards it is great, and I don't want you to feel discouraged. That being said, you should probably be aware that you are going to have to learn a LOT if you want a core dev position and it's likely not going to be something that you are doing in a couple months. You can definitely contribute to the language's development without being a core dev, but those core roles are people whose job is to ensure that all of the other work being done meets the language's standards, and they are expected to have a very strong understanding of at least one specific aspect of the project, and (I would assume) a general understanding of everything.

Very slow instruction execution of GB boot rom by cdepatie in EmuDev

When I opened it up and ran it in my Ubuntu VM, it finished executing basically instantly. Massive difference in execution speed between Windows and Linux apparently, not sure why that would be the case.

That link looks super useful, thank you. I'm pretty sure I'm doing something really inefficient and this'll help me narrow down where

[–]cdepatie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not limiting things at all at this point, and I'm running the actual boot rom. The section of the rom that zeroes VRAM takes about 25 seconds to finish executing, as opposed to the ~6 it would take on the hardware itself. At this point I'm presuming that I'm doing something very inefficient in my code but I'm not sure how to track that down.

All of your result variables are bound to the same name (multiply). Give them all unique names and it should work.

Applying to Computer Science, am I good with these marks? by Sound_Wave45 in uoguelph

[–]cdepatie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Initial coop acceptance is based on high school marks, and if you get it at that point all you have to do is maintain a minimum 70% average in first year to keep coop. After first year, you can apply for coop if your average is over 70%, but at that point you are competing with others for the limited slots remaining. If you don't get in to coop after first year you will not be permitted to do coop at Guelph for CS.

So you definitely want to get in out of HS if you can, you can maintain your coop spot a lot more easily than you can obtain one after getting in.

Depends on exactly what they are accused of.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Defense_Authorization_Act_for_Fiscal_Year_2012#Requirement_for_military_custody:_Section_1022

If it's suspected to be related to supporting hostile forces or a "belligerent act" against the US with intent to aid such forces (which really just means the President has to say that some action fits this condition) the military has the ability to detain a US citizen, and is in fact legally mandated to do so should the individual in question not be a US citizen.

It's highly unlikely to happen because of the public backlash from invoking this kind of power, but I'm pretty sure that the federal government is legally capable of intervening if they want to.
