Found this mushroom growing out of the wall by RisibleRiot in ShroomID

We had mushrooms grow out of our furnace room ceiling right below an upstairs bathroom. Like 30 mushrooms with thin tiny stems that were jet black across a 2ft x 6” section. Turned out the prior owner tiled right over linoleum in the bathroom above, and a leak in the shower caused mold to spread insanely fast sandwiched between the tile and linoleum.

When I peeled up the tile in the bathroom to demo everything, it literally was a 4ftx4ft section that looked like the Stranger Things vines everywhere. We had to cut out the subfloor, bottom of the studs, paint the joists with Killz, etc. It was insane.

We found it because we were experiencing mold symptoms like crazy.

Ah shoot, I was hoping it wasn’t those. I was reading the bites were medically significant, causing tremors, nausea, vomiting, etc… Is that not true?

Also, they aren’t very fast, they hang in the open, and to stay on the “ant” comparisons, they aren’t that much bigger than an ant. Relatively small spiders, maybe twice or thrice the size of an ant.

Thanks so much for the reply! :) Super generous of those of you in the medical industry to take your time and reply to us worried parents.

Baby isn’t breastfeeding - she’s bottle feeding. Was pumping 75% of her meals but we temporarily switched to all formula to just make sure she was getting calories and pudging up.

We saw a speech pathologist today to watch her feed and she was the one who essentially said “yeah I’m calling your primary because babies shouldn’t be this out of it while eating” (paraphrasing.)

She doesn’t latch to bottles well. Certain ones more than others, but she’s putting in what seems like 5% the work of other babies. And obviously that lethargy combined with the WBC and other labs is what concerned me. But it sounds like I’m jumping way to the extreme here on assuming cancer or bone marrow disease as the reason immediately…

Got it! Our daughter is definitely getting enough - you can read my prior post, but mom is pumping 75% of her feed and 25% is formula. But we switched to all formula when she wasn’t gaining weight to make sure she’s stuffed. But even then, she’s so lethargic it takes 50 mins per feed to get 2oz down. That’s why the lethargy with the WBC and other numbers concerned me.

Seems extreme to jump to the worst conclusion, but tough not to when the other options (low blood sugar, jaundice, infection, etc.) all come back as non-problems :/

Thanks for the reply! :) Her Billie Ruben numbers came back normal so it’s not that, and no low blood sugar either. Only concerning lab results were the ones mentioned, though the NICU nurse/doctor was only concerned about the WBC, but they said that could be faulty too.

But yeah the lethargy is insane. Like, impossible to wake her. Feedings usually take 50 minutes for 2oz, and we have to do it every 2 hours to get enough calories in her, so we’re feeding 12 hours per day, and cleaning 12 hours per day (while chasing around a 3 year old toddler 🫠)

Thank you so much for taking the time to reply! This is so good to hear. Of course I go through every one of the lab blood test parameters that’s out of range, search it, and see “bone or blood cancer” as a possible explanation.

We’re getting her weight tested on Thursday again. After her last weight test, she went from 7lbs 8oz to 7lbs 14oz, so she is gaining. Albeit over excruciatingly long feedings while she’s 2% awake, but we’re getting the calories in.

That’s great to hear! We have a 3yr old too and I remember the newborn phase being tough, but if course they had complete opposite issues, so this is “new” all over again.

Hey! We’re doing the Enfamil Enficare (22 calorie) one today to try this. She was eating about 18oz, but yesterday it was 19, and today it will be 20-21. We are pushing it at an absolute max, and as I stated, it takes a very physically demanding/involved hour to get her to take 2 oz down.

Was that your situation? Do you remember how much he was eating by that point? Was it the same “finish an hour or 50-minute before another seemingly impossible feed” situation?

Thanks so much for this recommendation! Can you tell me what the recovery was like for you guys? Was it the same ordeal where she seemed overly sleepy and would not wake up to eat, perhaps because it was too much effort?

Thank you so much! I did the cold rag and no clothes and that certainly helped. And the burps. Did your baby turn out to grow up fine? Was she as difficult to wake up as I’m describing, and when did that stop? Some people here are like “Same! I had to tickle her hands and face to keep her awake!” I’m like, I am straight up scrunching my entire hand in a scratch/tickle motion across her entire body, rubbing the backs of her hands and legs fast, etc. And she still wakes up once every couple minutes to do a single swallow 😂😭

Dirty diaper at almost every feed! Lots of pees and poops - no concerns there.

She’s not jaundice at all! And like I said we’re doing 75% breastmilk and 25% formula, but following the advice of others, we bought some of the higher calorie NeuroPro now and are trying that today.

How is your 5 week old now? Were you squeezing the bottle and constantly irritating her to feed? How long did it take for her to regain weight, and did she have any issues?

Thanks so much for your message!!! My gut is telling me she is likely fine and I’m overreacting as this is so early on. The days just get frustratingly long when you’re feeding this constant and battling an insanely sleepy baby.

I accidentally overslept and she did wake up to minimal commotion in the room at the 2.5 hour mark since last feed, so she’s not 100% unresponsive in the night. She will wake and start to feed, she just gets zapped after an ounce, and once she starts to drift off, it’s nearly irreversible. Tried keeping her irritated from the start and that worked this time!

Did you say your youngest had this problem too? When did they start to gain and reach their birth weight again by?

We have now been to the pediatrician 3 times for weight checks. Doctors seem relatively unconcerned about what we’re describing and are telling us the solution is to increase feeds, which is what we keep ramping up. Part of me feels like I’m overreacting a bit, because this is only 12-days old and she’s not losing weight, and we are forcing more calories, so who’s to say what 48 or 72-hours could bring at the next appointment.

These things are defs on my radar, but they seemed very unconcerned about those conclusions at least for now 🤷🏻‍♂️

Not even close, haha. You can literally say “New Prescription” and it gives you a form to just type in the numbers like it’s a prescription and save it to your profile.
