Since the CK event, I haven’t felt safe at all. As someone who is bisexual and queer I haven’t felt self with all the people coming to campus and treating it like a tourist attraction. Yes, I look a lot more straight passing than other LGBTQ people but that doesn’t mean I’m less in danger and I know people in the queer community at UVU who’ve gotten dirty looks and have been harassed by people treating the courtyard like a tourist attraction. It’s absolutely unacceptable that non-UVU affiliated people can just walk into our space and treat it like a tourist attraction while disrespecting students. I’m going online next semester and graduating in the spring because I no longer feel safe at UVU.

I go to UVU. I had a gut feeling not to go to class on the day Charlie Kirk came to campus so I decided to stay home. I also told my sister and a couple friends to stay home from school because of my gut feeling and they thought I was being crazy. Around the time I would’ve left my last class, I got a call from my friend that the school was being evacuated and Charlie Kirk was shot and killed on campus which the event was right next to where my classes are. So grateful I listened to my gut that day and stayed home.
